rushmc 23 #1 October 7, 2014 Just an FYI QuoteDemocrats may not be quite as smart as they think they are. That’s the conclusion of a new Pew Research Center for the People and the Press survey that posed a dozen questions about current events. Republicans emerged as the most informed in the poll. President Obama and his party prefer to think of Republicans as hayseeds who cling bitterly to guns and religion, but it turns out blue-state residents who get their news from National Public Radio aren’t as tuned in to what’s happening in the rest of the world. By a wide margin, Republicans proved more likely to know that there are more Shiites than Sunnis in Iran. They are more aware that Common Core is an educational standard and that oil is driving North Dakota’s economic boom. More Republicans can identify Benjamin Netanyahu as Israel’s prime minister. Fewer Democrats realize that ISIS controls territory in Syria, and that Ukraine was once part of the Soviet Union. http://www.people-press.org/2014/10/02/from-isis-to-unemployment-what-do-americans-know/"America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." wmw999 2,545 #12 October 7, 2014 Well, you posted this poll. I assume you think it matters based on that. And you've posted repeatedly on the lack of validity (for various reasons) of polls you disagree with. I guess those two observations don't mean much then? LyraM45 0 #25 October 8, 2014 Weird.... when I opened this thread I thought for sure it was going to be a poll concerning knowledge/IQ/test scores/etc. I continued to think so when I saw the first line of the editorial, "Democrats may not be quite as smart as they think they are." Maybe I'm not a "smart" independent, but I don't think smart is synonymous with being up on current events. I don't think that is the smart Democrats think they are or claim to be. It sure isn't the smart that these polls come out and talk about when they reference the most/least educated groups, states, areas, etc. I guess I am just confused about the editorial conveying the feeling of, "ha! So you (democrats) aren't up on as much current events as you walk around saying you are!" when I never really get the feeling that democrats are ever boasting "we know more current events than everybody else!"Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
