As long as you can trace the calibration of their instruments back to an accepted standard (such as NIST, UKAS or BIPM) you're in good shape.... wayneflorida 0 #80 September 26, 2014 I'll be impressed when these guys can tell me the exact date and strength of the next hurricane to make land fall here in the Playground area. I am only looking for a prediction one month out, not 25-30 years.
lawrocket 3 #81 September 26, 2014 wayneflorida I'll be impressed when these guys can tell me the exact date and strength of the next hurricane to make land fall here in the Playground area. I am only looking for a prediction one month out, not 25-30 years. Yeah. Remember back after the 2005 season hen the forecasts were that it was going to get worse? And I don't think Florida has had a hurricane make landfall since 2005. Not one hurricane landfall in 9 years in Florida. I assure you that there wasn't a hurricane forecaster in the last decade that made this projection. After last year (which was pretty much supposed to be a stronger-than-average year and ended up ith two Atlantic hurricanes - none major - demonstrated the lack of understanding of the meteorology as well as the prevalence of chaos in weather forecasting. (Part of me wonders about the effects of past fear-mongering. AGW theory predicts more wind shear. The three mortal enemies of hurricanes are land, cold water and wind shear. I wonder what the effect would be had the AGW crowd said then, "we may see fewer and less powerful hurricanes in the future due to increased wind shear." Would we have AGW proponents saying, "See? Wo told you. But please trust us that there are other detrimental effects to AGW." My wife is hotter than your wife.

Look, we're either going to have to try to live on a frozen ice-ball or a hellish desert planet that is mostly covered by salt water. Either way, I'm scared shitless. Boomerdog 0 #83 September 26, 2014 After doing some searching on the net, the data is inconclusive on alligators in Virginia. Alligators caught in Virginia and Maryland waterways are in the opinion of each states fish and game department, not big enough to be indigenous and the result of release by humans who were keeping the gator for a pet...then the gator got too big and they released it. The bottom line of reading approximately 20 articles on this subject is there's been no confirmed citing of an alligator in the wild in Virginia. Yes, the Great Dismal Swamp is in both Virginia and North Carolina and while gators are certainly present in the GDS on the North Carolina side, none have been seen on the Virginia side for reasons yet to be fully known. Perhaps you are in possession of confirmatory data.

That will probably happen around the time we can predict exactly when you will get home from work with traffic.
