GOP creates fake news sites

I suspect a lot of republicans here will be posting a lot of "local news stories" in the next few months:

Republicans launch fake news sites for midterm elections
Uproar among media and Democrats over GOP's 'fake news' sites

At first glance, the “Central Valley Update,” the “Augusta Update” and the “Aurora Update” appear to be doing what any news site would do: hold local candidates accountable.

Problem is, they’re not real news sites.

The National Republican Congressional Committee has launched more than 20 of these fake news sites to attack Democrats running for Congress, creating a media uproar and drawing protest from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the NRCC’s counterpart.

“If anyone was wondering why voters don’t trust Congress, look no further than the NRCC’s brand new voter outreach strategy—fake news sites,” said Josh Schwerin, national press secretary for the DCCC, in a statement.

The layouts are designed to resemble news websites, with photos and headlines. “Enyart Breaks Promises, Plays Politics With Military” reads a site calling itself the "Southern Illinois Update." The "story" questions the candidate's record on various issues.

As with legitimate news sites, readers can tweet about the article or recommend it to Facebook friends. There is even a "most viewed" link, which takes readers to a video attack ad.

Readers only discover who is behind the website by scrolling to the bottom of the page, where a box indicates the NRCC is the sponsor, an FEC requirement for all political committee websites.

I'm not sure what makes them 'fake'. It's a site that carries news. It just carries one flavor. Not sure how that varies from all the others. Nothing in that article indicates the news portrayed on the site is false. It seems to presume the sites carry lies because of the party behind them... Which tells us the slant of that publication more than anything.

They all have a slant. If you can't see it on the one you are watching, that one happens to favor your particular slant.
I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

It's fake because they are trying to appear as if an impartial 3rd party created the reports. That would give the reports more weight.

>I'm not sure what makes them 'fake'.

Their attempt to look like a mainstream news source, and hiding the source of the "news."

Compare this to a company that sends you a letter that looks identical to your water bill, and asks for payment. In the corner there's a tiny note "from Waterworks Inc." (And if you pay it you get a brand new R/O filter system!)

That might not be dishonest - if you read closely enough you could determine that it was not in fact your water bill, and that your money would be going to a different organization. But I would still find that fake and misleading. They would be counting on people to NOT read carefully and just believe what they read because it looks like a bill they are used to.

>I think it is kind of cool

Of course you do.

(Next democrats will come out with a pro-Obamacare site that looks like a news site and you will call for Obama's arrest.)

We already have pro obama and pro obamacare sights
I listed them above already

I think it is kind of cool how you love the media when they agree with you, but hate the media when they disagree with you.

I also think it is kind of cool that you will soon be quoting some of these sites to support your viewpoints.
