lawrocket 3 #5 August 16, 2014 [quote "jakee"]You agree with good old socialist G EDeorge? I don't think I do know where you're heading! Orwell was zealously in favor of personal freedom and thought socialism was the best way to maintain personal freedoms. Which is kinda like a pulmonologist who thinks smoking is the key to lung health. Evidence has shown that the two don't really fit together well. This is probably why Orwell's enduring legacy is that of showing why big government is to be feared and individuals much guard against interusiveness/totalitarianism. He saw the problems with anarchy. He also saved the brunt of his wrath for totalitarians who used socialism as their tool. The influence of Orwell cannot be overstated. I don't think that the GOP or Democrats understand that 1984 was a criticism of totalitariansism and not intended to an instructuion manual for building the ideal government. My wife is hotter than your wife.
