quade 4 #2 July 15, 2014 Yeah, I'm going to say a couple of things that's going to send this over to SC. There are certain groups, veterans being one of them, for which businesses get tax credits (subsidies) for hiring. While this is all well and good and awesome if a person happens to be in that group, it makes it nearly impossible for people outside of that group to be hired for positions where high skill is not a factor because, hey, free money for the companies. To me, this simply blows. ALL subsidies should end.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
BIGUN 1,489 #3 July 16, 2014 Maybe a letter to President Obama would help? http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-11-21/obama-grants-tax-credits-for-hiring-jobless-vets.html Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard. normiss 898 #4 July 16, 2014 One of my former customers, a graphics shop in the Disney area, used to prefer to employ the handicapped. The majority of employees were in wheelchairs. Lots of discounts, credits, and preferential treatment. Clearly used to favor the business, not the favored employees. The few times I've used unemployment services, I always declined the veteran 'special treatment'. It was never of benefit to me in any way and I disagree with the application of most of these programs.

I am surprised that you would state that and have those negative feelings given your background. I think veterans should be given priority over all others where special programs or provisions apply.Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. normiss 898 #6 July 16, 2014 That "help" was worthless with my skills. There is generally no demand for a veteran technologist unless you want to "stay in the family". I didn't. I let my TS SBI expire intentionally. As amazing as the military technology was, and is, it still boiled down to one purpose. I don't want to contribute to that. normiss 898 #8 July 16, 2014 I do know a few jobs I've had over the years I was hired specifically due to my veteran status. I didn't know it at the time though as they never made me aware of that as policy. Yet it was. I just never understood (for me) the value of job placement assistance, resume' writing classes, interviewing skills training, retraining to a new career field, or even sending me to companies that LOVE vets "just to see if they have a place for you". I was always more focused than that.
