Unfortunately, this happens in other states, also. Too often investigators fixate on one suspect and too quickly come to a conclusion of guilt. When it is more advisable to keep that person in mind and branch out the investigation till the real culprit is caught. Too often, law enforcement wants a quick answer and prosecutors want a quick conviction, most often for political reasons. To throw a blanket of generalities exclusively over the State of Texas is not acceptable. Incidents similar to your post happen in New York, L.A. and even in Illinois and elsewhere. No one was rushing to defend Texas on this. It was fairly noted that he was using this incident for a separate political point about capital punishment and a specific attack on Texas. Those sentenced to life may be in a worse place than those given the death penalty, from an appeals perspective. Since the penalty is always undoable (not really, but more so than the dead, of course), they don't have nearly the same number of appeals options, nor the same level of public interest. In a case that had enough irregularities that they jailed the DA eventually, I suspect it would have come out sooner. But no, I wouldn't have gambled his life on that odds assessment. I realize and knew there were of course, but a number of municipalities have decided to provide vouchers or credits to existing housing for low income folks. It's been a pretty impressive effort at integrating all sorts of folks. Better than placing them all on the one island in town. Like South Chicago. The projects in south side Chicago were all demolished years ago (last one came down in 2007). There are NO more projects on the south (or any other) side.
