RonD1120 62 #52 July 8, 2014 normissThat's not why I pointed out your racist comments Ron. When I was a kid the 'nigras' were the "problem". I drove a school bus for my grandfather picking up the migrant worker pickers that worked for him in the orange groves. I did see the change to Latinos as I was in high school. Given that I grew up in central FL in the middle of strawberry fields, citrus groves, and poor white trash crack heads, I missed the part where all the Mexicans were the "problem". As a society we perpetuate the problem. It's just fucking racism. Everywhere. Justifying it because "it's fact" doesn't make it right. Because it's neither. Please see Iago's post #36. I didn't say all Mexicans were a problem. I said they brought gang activity, which they did. In my area it was Sur 13 that was the most active. You are working way too hard to pick a fight with me. It is just not a substantial foundation. Mexican is a nationality not a race. My wife is Spanish and we related with many of our Mexican neighbors that worked in the farms. And besides, its a beautiful day in the mountains.Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them. normiss 898 #53 July 8, 2014 Not trying to pick a fight bro. I apologize if that's the way this made you feel. I just get tired of racism. In so many ways. Right up there with gay rights. People are people. I'm always confused by those that can't accept that. I think I'll go have a beer with my buds. Enjoy your evening Ron.

normiss 898 #58 July 8, 2014 Right. White people don't steal, do drugs, prostitute themselves, listen to 'spic'[sic] music, rape, kill...or any of that stuff "those" people do. That's why we have fences! And railroad tracks. Racism is alive and doing rather well it seems to me.

regulator 0 #60 July 9, 2014 And yet there are always people pulling the race card because it fits their purpose. It's a pathetic argument. Explain to me how when two skinheads beat up and kill an innocent black man that's instantly a hate crime, but when the roles are reversed...well they just had it coming to them for being white in a black neighborhood. I've never heard anyone in a position of authority (a cop, a judge etc) say "well, the murder victim just had it coming." Of course you hear that a lot on the Internet. normiss 898 #63 July 9, 2014 IMO, it's all based on your perspective and experience in your life. I grew up in an Air Force family so our world was fully integrated. (I was born in 62, and until 76 was immersed in Air Force) Dad retired in central Florida in an integrated environment. His mom was sick so in 77 we moved to southern Illinois. Sullivan. Middle of cornfield USA. With soy beans. Not a brother in sight for at least 40 miles to Decatur or Mattoon. They'd run them out of town. Stop for gas? They were fucked. I stood in gas stations when the owner "closed" the store because some nigger wanted gas. Whoa. No wonder that area was such a culture shock to me. I joined the Navy soon thereafter....also integrated. I've been all over...all sorts of colors...all sorts of nationalities. I see people. Everywhere. Some are ass holes. Most are cool. No matter the ethnicity. I can't play a race card so I don't get it from that view. I also refuse to be held guilty of past mistreatment of any race and I generally make that clear and it isn't an issue. I cannot for the life of me understand the hatred for people based on something that none of us have any say in. Born xxxx? Fuck you the world hates you. Good thing some of us aren't xxxx huh? regulator 0 #64 July 9, 2014 I'm ex military myself. I was taught to fight for the man next to no matter where they come from or what ethnicity they had. When I was in high school my best friend was black. His name was Tim Mcgruder and I spent the night at his house quite a bit. We as a civilization have come far from where we were. But now 'racism' is used so often it truly takes away from the true racism people from most ethnicities had to endure during the times you described. I can't imagine being on the receiving end of that treatment. It makes me want to cry putting myself in that person's shoes being denied service. From birth until I was about 7 we lived next door to a black family. They had 3 kids all the same age as my brothers and I. I called them Aunt Peggy and Uncle Clyde. My best friend was Vanessa and her younger sister Veronica was the little pain in the ass following us around. Clyde Jr. was the youngest and was such a sweet little boy. I think in the winter we spent more time in their basement playroom and in the summer they spent more time at our house in the pool and at the beach. Our parents were great friends. When my Aunt Peggy died years ago I asked for time off during the day to walk around the corner to the funeral home for the services. My boss said to give her the obituary. I gave her the paper with a picture atop Aunt Peggy's obituary and the boss said something like "Karen, she's a N. You're not related so you can't have the time off." This was said by a person who was in judicial authority (fairness, justice is blind yada yada). I've hated that woman since that incident. She's dead now too so I wonder if she's burning in hell for being such a C.Always be kinder than you feel.
normiss 898 #67 July 9, 2014 Interesting that he spends almost 15 minutes telling you how beneficial prejudice is, only to negate that positions at the end of his speech with talk of praising reason and combating prejudice. He also seems to lean more towards recognizing the prejudicial behavior so as to correct it. I'm not sure what his point was. IMO, it's just flat wrong to hold a prejudice for someone based on ethnicity. I'm quite comfortable with that. Doesn't your god tell you to love everyone? In california, there's not nearly enoughof high school kids to do this work. Without Hispanics, this state goes under. On a somewhat related note, I'm always amazed when I visit my daughter in N Dakota, I've never had to repeat my order 9 times at the drive through. Sometimes when I'm there, I can go days and not see a single dark skinned person, it's kind of of peculiar.

weekender 0 #70 July 9, 2014 its not always as simple as racism. sometimes its a coincidence they are of a different race. in NY i hear the same thing about immigrants from eastern europe. they bring crime and gangs and dont speak the language, blah blah blah. they happen to be very white people. so IMO its more about culture than race. they are coming from a very poor place and bring with them problems that a lot of very poor people have. they did leave their homeland for a reason and it not because its a better place than here. to me, it seems so lazy to just label people who have concerns about illegal immigrants as racist. as if, none of their concerns are legitimate and its all based on skin color. there are legitimate concerns and its not always directed at non whites. in this case they are not white europeans but ive heard the exact same said of Polish and Russians. its more about a clash of cultures than racism, imo."The point is, I'm weird, but I never felt weird." I missed the "except the Mexicans" in there I guess. I thought it was an interesting lecture emphasizing the normality of prejudice. It is like anger. Everyone feels it. How do you express it in a socially acceptable manner. Who said I do not "love" Mexicans? I lived with them for 4.5 years in Taos, NM. One of whom was directly involved in my initial survival there. Side note, you have to survive one year to earn the title Taoseño. I have always interacted very well with Mexicans and Chicanos. When I had some who were gang bangers in drug treatment we also got along well. They were some of my best clients.
