If those leaders are nice and safe in Guantanamo.. they are protected by our USMC If they show their faces to the facial recognition software in use in places they are not supposed to be... do you really believe they do not have an expensive USAF Hellfire with their name on it to send them to their Hareem in Paradise. Personally I think leaving Bergdahl there would have been a bad precedent with that whole "no man left behind" thing. The guy is a douche..... but he is our douche and will receive his legal rights to suffer the consequences of bad decisions... as must we all

okalb 104 #407 March 25, 2015 RonD1120Apparently, sometime before 2008. I would say LONG before 2008. Here are a few examples: The Reagan administration sold missiles to Tehran to secure the partial release of seven American hostages held in Lebanon. In fact, it was known at the time as the “arms-for-hostages” deal. After the North Koreans captured the U.S.S. Pueblo in 1968, President Lyndon Johnson apologized for spying as part of negotiations to secure the release of 83 American prisoners. In 1970, President Richard Nixon pressured Israel, Switzerland, West Germany and Britain to release Palestinian prisoners after two airlines were hijacked by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. During the Iran hostage crisis of 1979 to 1981, President Jimmy Carter agreed to unfreeze $8 billion in frozen Iranian assets after more than a year of negotiations with the Iranian revolutionaries. President Bill Clinton’s administration sat down with Hamas in attempts to negotiate peace with Israel. His administration also worked directly with the Taliban nearly two decades ago on several occasions to see if the group would hand over Osama bin Laden and other al-Qaida leaders.Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Boomerdog 0 #409 March 25, 2015 QuoteI'd bet on time served and a BCD. I would not bet on time served and a BCD. If desertion is proven resulting in a conviction, he's headed to Leavenworth for a while. If desertion is proven along WITH proving that American soldiers died when detailed to look for him, ya might as well through gas on the fire. Obama can pardon him. normiss 897 #410 March 25, 2015 The max penalty, still listed as death, has not been used since the '40's. Since Iraq, deserters have not served more than 24 months. I think they are after his benefits. Back pay, war time POW benefits, and any possible disability, he could easily get over $3k/month tax free. BCD will wipe that away with a quickness. Boomerdog 0 #412 March 25, 2015 I won't speculate on the death penalty. Courts-Martial Boards have their own surprises. Desertion is still a serious charge. I'll speculate that if convicted, he's going to do a pretty good chunk of time.
