billvon 3,090 #6 March 23, 2014 >How's does the pope feel about Pedophiles, & those who enable/shield them?? ================= Pope Francis to Catholic church: 'act decisively' to punish pedophile priests Reuters Saturday 18 January 2014 11.13 EST Pope Francis gave the Roman Catholic Church some marching orders Friday — "act decisively" to root out and punish pedophile priests. Doing so is necessary "for the church and its credibility," Francis said, according to the Vatican. It was the first time Francis publically addressed the festering sex abuse issue since he was elected last month — and he did so in a meeting with Archbishop Gerhard Müller, who heads the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which investigates perv priests. The department should also promote "measures to protect minors, help for those who have suffered such violence in the past," the pope's statement said. . . . . Earlier this week, the Archdiocese of Milwaukee announced it would release thousands of documents related to priest sexual abuse lawsuits on July 1, including a deposition from Timothy Cardinal Dolan. Dolan, who headed the church in Milwaukee before moving to New York City, was questioned about his decision to publicize the names of priests accused of molestation. He said he welcomes the document dump. The pedophile priest erupted when an ailing Pope John Paul was in the final years of his reign - and when church leaders dealt with sicko priests by shuffling them from one parish to another. His successor, Pope Benedict, was the first pope to meet with abuse victims. But Benedict disappointed victims by not disciplining church higher-ups who shielded abusive priests. ====================
PiLFy 3 #7 March 23, 2014 I remember when that quoted article came out. I dismissed it, out of hand. The Catholic church has been protecting/enabling pedophiles since time immemorial... A little lip service isn't gonna change a thing. As even the article states, nothing was done to the POSs doing the enabling/shielding... Guess You can tell I have no use or respect for the Catholic Mafia.
Thunderbow 1 #8 March 24, 2014 It is simply amazing that all of the incredible things the Catholic Church does and has done all over the world to help people in innumerable ways just get dismissed over and over again. No, they don't make up for the evil of the priest dilemma and nothing ever will but they are there in more ways and places than any other organization has ever done. Blaze away at the bad but don't dismiss the good. Oh, and I know that I will be blazed away at for exaggerating and not listing every good thing the Church has done.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lord, let me be the person my dog thinks I am. PiLFy 3 #9 March 24, 2014 I'm not gonna flame you for not citing several examples. I would put this forth, though. It's dedicated people who do the good deeds, NOT the Catholic church. Take away all the blood, usury, political machinations, etc... that the Catholic Mafia has on its hands, & leave the many good people who chose to use the Catholic construct to practice their individual altruism. Going back over their history, the Catholic church simply has far too many bad marks against them. As an organization, they've no right to wag their finger at anyone... PiLFy 3 #11 March 24, 2014 ThunderbowWe are the Church, we are the body of Christ. I think I understood that. I'm woefully ignorant of organized religions. Mkay. If Y'all are the church, etc...? The evil are all the buildings bought by that blood money I mentioned, controlled by those evil managers I mentioned. Whom allow/enable those other evils I mentioned. Please don't go into a theological debate. I'll only turn off, & leave the thread. Own it or not, the Catholic church has no moral high ground. Truth be told, it never did. Thunderbow 1 #12 March 25, 2014 Your opinion but it is wrong. No theological debate. Not only are you ignorant of organized religions you are ignorant of the enormous good the Catholic Church AND it's leaders have done. Yep there have been some bad leaders and some bad members. Every organization has them. Bad buildings? Probably not. But when it comes to the Catholic Church the bad is all that seems to be remembered.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lord, let me be the person my dog thinks I am. Of late, even with this pope (who I like), it seems like more business as usual on the pedophile priest front: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-26448075 QuotePope hits out at criticism of Church over sexual abuse 5 March 2014 Pope Francis has strongly defended the Roman Catholic Church's record on tackling sexual abuse by priests. In a rare interview with an Italian newspaper, the Pope said "no-one else has done more" to root out paedophilia. He said the Church had acted with transparency and responsibility, yet it was the only institution to have been attacked. Last month, the UN strongly criticised the Vatican for failing to stamp out child abuse and for allowing cover-ups. Words are words. I'll wait for the actions.
