I think we may need to build more prisons

"Lawrence Torcello, a philosophy professor with a Ph.D. "

which explains much.

then:
"He then goes on to cite a case in Italy where six scientists were jailed for failing to “clearly communicate risks to the public” about living in an earthquake zone."

As if Italy, the place with perhaps the longest history of squashing science (Vatican), really is a useful example.

"Torcello also addresses the fact that his demands clearly run in opposition to protected free speech under the First Amendment, and as part of other nations’ laws, calling for legal systems to be “updated” by governments."

so what you really have here is another argument against tenure.

I'm willing to bet this professor drives himself to and from the "hallowed halls of the ivory towers" in his gas guzzling SUV.

Why build more prisons? This sounds like the type of crime that the new FEMA camps could handle just fine.

Do you really think that "Infowars" is a credible source and adds legitimacy to any thing you have to say?

Uh Really???? :D:D:D:D

So, just because you dont like the fact that it was reported by inforwars, the proff did not say these things?
Really?

Maybe read the original article he wrote?

Is misinformation about the climate criminally negligent?

He is talking about institutions and corporations that spread misinformation for personal political and/or financial gains.

Not individual idiots who believe that propaganda.

So it wasn't some off-hand comment. This dude actually put thought into this type of hysterical alarmist shit. Seriously - this guy wants Torquemada out there. Know what a gulag is?

Here's what he wrote:
[Quote] have argued elsewhere that scientists have an ethical obligation to communicate their findings as clearly as possible to the public when such findings are relevant to public policy. Likewise, I believe that scientists have the corollary obligation to correct public misinformation as visibly and unequivocally as possible

So climate modelers have a duty to correct themselves for the las 15 years. What about the hurricane forecasters who set a record for wrong last year? Or what about the forecasters who claimed that most of the US would be very warm this winter?

There is misinformation on both sides. But who will be the arbiter? Oh, yes. Those who believe what he does.

That's asking an awful lot here on Speaker's Corner. The usual sequence is read-outrage-post-defend-"that's-not-what-I-meant-you-idiot."

Yours possibly.

It doesn't need to, you do a good enough job embarrassing yourself.

If you want to make a point by posting a link, you might at least read it first, with understanding.
