Rather a thick brush there, isn't it? Pandering to rabid partisans is the problem more than Republicanism . Seems that right now the far right is more interested in being pandered to than the far left, though.

This issue was highlighted right after the SCOTUS decision on the ACA, yet a bunch of red states went ahead and did it anyway as a way to spite Obama.

So they have indeed put the narrow interests of their extremists above the interests of their poorer citizens in general. (Not that they ever cared much about the poor anyway).
