airdvr 210 #1 February 14, 2014 ACA changes at Obama's whim http://www.mansfieldnewsjournal.com/article/20140213/OPINION01/302130015/ACA-changes-Obama-s-whim QuoteThe new rule also relaxes the mandate for certain occupations and industries that were at particular risk for disruption, like volunteer firefighters, teachers, adjunct faculty members and seasonal employees. Oh, and the Treasury also notes that, “As these limited transition rules take effect, we will consider whether it is necessary to further extend any of them beyond 2015.” So the law may be suspended indefinitely if the White House feels like it. Liberals in here will scream about the constitution when it suits them. On this...crickets.Please don't dent the planet. rushmc 23 #6 February 14, 2014 I would scream about this regardless He is not using executive orders here He is re-writing law to improve his political standing/advantage"America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." mistercwood 287 #7 February 15, 2014 I don't get it. Conservatives: This law is going to hurt the economy, employers are going to get screwed by it!! etc etc repeat ad nauseum Administration: Fine, we'll listen - here's a bunch of accommodations to give people more time to prepare and hopefully soften part of the blow to employers and also the economy as a whole Conservatives: How DARE you make changes to address the things we've been screaming about for months on end!! What exactly am I missing here? You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
Bolas 5 #8 February 15, 2014 The complaint is not about what he's doing, it's about how. He's using selective enforcement, not working with Congress to make an actual change. The danger in this is any of these "changes" could theoretically be repealed at anytime, on any group, even retroactively and would be perfectly legal.Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh. mistercwood 287 #9 February 15, 2014 To be fair, when it comes to the ACA working with Congress has mostly been the GOP saying "Repeal your signature law because we don't like it"... Though I see your point. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
airdvr 210 #10 February 15, 2014 Congress is the lawmaker, not the president. If this law needs changes let it be done the constitutional way. Barry is supposedly a constitutional scholar. Also, we're staring mid-terms in the eye and the only reason he makes these changes is to avoid political repercussions. He's done it all through his presidency. He changed the story on Benghazi right before the election, managed to doctor the employment numbers, and has changed this fucked up law numerous times, all so he could look good. He'd lie when the truth would sound better. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
kelpdiver 2 #11 February 15, 2014 mistercwoodTo be fair, when it comes to the ACA working with Congress has mostly been the GOP saying "Repeal your signature law because we don't like it"... Though I see your point. That has become the problem - Congress (and by that I really mean the GOP) has refused to do its job for 6 years now. They would be going crazy if the Administration pressed ahead recklessly, or sought to impose penalties on people while the signup process remained fucked, but since they have absolutely no interest in seeing ACA implemented at all, they will not act in good faith to legislate fixes. Instead they continuously try to repeal established law, despite lacking the votes. The President has pushed/abuse the boundaries of law making for many decades, using the executive order and as controller of the bureaucracies that do the rule making to implement new laws. But given the lack of participation, it's hard to be as upset about it here. Just as I wasn't bothered by the Treasury Department pushing boundaries to ensure we did not default on our debt while Congress squabbled like children.
