davjohns 1 #7 January 24, 2014 Actually, this is not new. Even the picture in the article is from four years ago. And to the American military dress code...from a Brit? The UK Army has 19 different levels of uniform dress with variations for each Regiment. It is a running joke with them that if two officers from the same Regiment accidentally show up in the same uniform, the junior officer has to go home and change. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course. Bwhaaaaa .. sort of right these days... But I do see a lot of USAF here and scruffy doesn't even cover it!) I have to say things have changed since I was 'in'... folks walk around town in 'uniform' but not wearing a hat .. that would have got us shouted at (at best .... or charged!). That even goes for the Officers too (shower of shite). Standards have slipped .... and yet my Dada and Grandad said the same about us .. the cheek of it (.)Y(.) I worked with a delegation of 20 Jordanians for a couple of weeks, 10 women and 10 men. Jordan has an open policy for hair covering for women -- wear it or don't, but if you do, it must be plain black or white (depending on the uniform), and of a single-piece easy-to-wear style. The government didn't want to dictate one look or the other, and wanted all women to have the opportunity to serve. One of the toughest female NCOs I ever met was the one on that delegation, and she chose to cover her hair. We were at Parris Island touring recruit training, and she wanted to try out the obstacle course the recruits were making such drama about. Those recruits certanly got an atttitude adjustment watching her play on that playground! Bottom line -- if you don't make a big deal about it in the service, and have regulations about how it must conform, then you'll have a lot less concern about it in general. As long as the (soldier, sailor, airman, Marine, etc) wears the rest of the uniform sharply and with honor, and performs to standard (hopefully strives to go above standard), then I see no problem with it.See the upside, and always wear your parachute! -- Christopher Titus Shut Up & Jump!
