Global warming traps scientists in ice

Warming of the Arctic was predicted some time back to cause instability of the jet stream. Usually the jet stream confines the polar vortex to the high Arctic. However, due to Arctic warming the polar vortex has been able to move south leading to the current cold spell.

Nothing new here John

Been happening for decades

But, since you and your fellow alarmists are loosing the temp data you have to go another direction

I sould have been more specific. How about something from the 1990s. These "theories" have only been promulgated AFTER the lack of warming made it necessary.

"I predict warming; snow will be a thing of the past and the arctic will be ice free by 2013"

I'll let you know about the crow when it gets served.

In 1974, Time Magazine blamed the cold polar vortex on global cooling.

Scientists have found other indications of global cooling. For one thing there has been a noticeable expansion of the great belt of dry, high-altitude polar winds —the so-called circumpolar vortex—that sweep from west to east around the top and bottom of the world.

Another Ice Age? – TIME

Forty years later, Time Magazine blames the cold polar vortex on global warming

But not only does the cold spell not disprove climate change, it may well be that global warming could be making the occasional bout of extreme cold weather in the U.S. even more likely. Right now much of the U.S. is in the grip of a polar vortex, which is pretty much what it sounds like: a whirlwind of extremely cold, extremely dense air that forms near the poles. Usually the fast winds in the vortex—which can top 100 mph (161 k/h)—keep that cold air locked up in the Arctic. But when the winds weaken, the vortex can begin to wobble like a drunk on his fourth martini, and the Arctic air can escape and spill southward, bringing Arctic weather with it. In this case, nearly the entire polar vortex has tumbled southward, leading to record-breaking cold

1. Incorrect statement.

2. Time is not a peer reviewed science journal.

Do you actually understand the scientific method? Of course theories evolve as more data comes in. That doesn't mean the people had an evil agenda to deceive.

Are you sure you're not misquoting here? I believe he did make the laughable claim that people in England would forget what snow is. I don't recall a claim that the arctic would be ice free by 2013, particularly when no one would even predict that for Killamanjaro in the center of Africa.

"We've learned from experience that the truth will come out. Other experimenters will repeat your experiment and find out whether you were wrong or right. Nature's phenomena will agree or they'll disagree with your theory. And, although you may gain some temporary fame and excitement, you will not gain a good reputation as a scientist if you haven't tried to be very careful in this kind of work. And it's this type of integrity, this kind of care not to fool yourself, that is missing to a large extent in much of the research in cargo cult science."

In his Dec. 10, 2007 “Earth has a fever” speech, Gore referred to a prediction by U.S. climate scientist Wieslaw Maslowski that the Arctic’s summer ice could “completely disappear” by 2013 due to global warming caused by carbon emissions.

you need to look up the definition of a word, perhaps?

Parsing a word to try and change what we all knew AlGore was implying?

Really?

When you're charging scientists with fraud, words really do matter. Especially if you change scientist to Al Gore and could to will.

While we can debate their honesty, you two leave absolutely no doubt on your's. It's hardly a surprise when Brent puts up vague, uncited material, and then when queried, starts to change the lines. Al Gore is a straight shooter next to him.

Sound plausible, but it is wrong.
Award-winning Princeton University Physicist Dr. Will Happer rejected the media and some scientists claims that the record U.S. cold is due to man-made global warming.
“Polar vortices have been around forever. They have almost nothing to do with more CO2 in the atmosphere,” Happer said in an exclusive interview with Climate Depot.
Happer continued: “Here is a thumbnail sketch of the physics. The poles have little sunshine even in summer, but especially in winter, like now in the Arctic. So the air over the poles rapidly gets bitterly cold because of radiation to dark space, with negligible replenishment of heat from sunlight. The sinking cold air is replaced by warmer air flowing in from the south at high altitudes. Since the earth is rotating, the air flowing in from the south has to start rotating faster to the west, just like a figure skater rotates faster if she pulls in her arms. This forms the polar vortex. The extremely cold air at the bottom of the vortex can be carried south by meanders of the jet stream at the edge of the vortex. We will have to live with polar vortices as long as the sun shines and the earth rotates.Like any fluid system at “high Reynolds number,” the jet stream is highly unstable, and from time to time it develops meanders to low latitudes, like the one we have had the past few days. About this time of year in 1777, just before the Battle of Princeton, there was a similar sequence.

So you think that all the water in the ocean is the same temperature?

So Lawrocket's not right about everything and I'm not wrong about everything. So why did you lie in your last reply? Is it because you couldn't find any specifics?

Of course it is.:S

Yeah, sure. There must be another reason why you can't think of anything to say except 'nope' again.

Great argument dude.
