Global warming traps scientists in ice

Hey, unfair to Exxon. Exxon now admits that AGW is real.

They'd make blood sacrifice to Baal if there was a buck to be made.

..............................................................................

So how do we make a buck off of global warming?

Real estate developers are already talking about adding "decorative water features" to condo developments immediately east of Main Street. They quietly forget that neighborhood was tidal mud flats a century ago. If sea levels continue to rise, that neighborhood will return to fetid tidal swamp.
I figure that I can make my first million dollars by selling Venice-inspired, Renaissance town-homes on the old mud flats.
We can add romantic second-story foot bridges for a few million more.
Then I can make a few million by leasing out a flotilla of gondolas to ply the "romantic water features."
... perhaps wholesaling cheap straw hats?
... bespoke straw hats?
... perhaps a school to teach opera singing to gondoleers?
... a shop building high-end, custom, racing gondolas?

Then I can make a few million selling sump pumps to people who were silly enough to build houses at sea level in Richmond.
Then I can make my next million dollars building dyke between Richmond and Surrey.
Then I can make my next million dredging out the "historic drainage" between Chinatown and downtown Vancouver.
Then I can make my next million offering ferry service across the Carroll Street Canal.
Then I can make my next million by building a bridge across the Carroll Street Canal.

Next thing you know, I will be selling ocean-front properties in Chilliwack!
Hah!
Hah!

How to turn a buck from Global Warming? Ask Algore!

He has a personal "carbon footprint" the size of a small city, and has amassed a 9-digit net worth by flying around in his personal jet pontificating about how evil it is to have a large carbon footprint and engage in such excesses as flying around on personal jets.

He's my hero.

[Reply]One thing is pretty certain - it won't be until at least 2050 before we have any idea what the deep ocean temperatures are doing.

I may be wrong on this. I may be right. Two papers are published in Nature Climate Change. The suggestions are that the deep ocean is not the place to find the "missing heat." But the surface water is. The reason is that the studies suggest that the water surface temps increased more than has been estimated. Thermal expansion would be expected to be greater.

BUT - thermal expansion matches only with surface heating, and the deep ocean could not have warmed and may have even cooled.

I sense the deniers will crow about this one because it puts some egg on the face of many prominent alarmists. But I don't see it that way. The uncertainty and margin of error has to be tremendous with this. Proxies are being used with estimates, etc.

So the deep sea temp estimates are the best we've got for no. The technique is the best we've got. But I sure as hell am not going to look at it and say, "this nails it."

The 12 months from October 2013 to September 2014 are the hottest 12-month period on record. Source: National Climatic Data Center, NOAA.

September 2014 also marks the fifth month in a row that Earth's oceans broke monthly heat records.

Earth hasn't set a monthly record for cold since December 1916, but all monthly heat records have been set after 1997.

Dammit. I thought kallend would bring this up tomorrow.

Here's a headline if stated properly: "NOAA's NCDC claims that according to its dataset, the 12 months from October 2013 to September 2014 are the hottest 12-month period on record."

There. It's not a "fact" that it is the warmest. Indeed, not even the HADCRUT3 or 4 series agree. GISS released something similar. But it's one dataset, with its own extrapolations. Other datasets disagree.

I'm hoping it's true. Then we can get some damned rain and snow out here.

Now making news in the alarmist blogosphere, the Nunavut town of Arviat has cancelled trick or treating due to polar bears in the area. Alarmists are suggesting climate change is bringing the bears into town.

Of course, Arviat has spent the past few years marketing itself as an eco-tourist destination. Among the things listed on its website is the annual polar bear migration that happens right about now. Every damned year.

And I note that alarmists said cuddly polar bears are being decimated...

As usual, we have the confusion between local and global conditions from a denier.

Contrary. It's the alarmists suggesting that climate change caused the cancellation of trick-or-treating.

It's the alarmists talking about "climate records being broken." Weather records get broken. Earth temperature records? How about NCDC's monthly "state of the climate" report, where it gives out all kinds of weather phenomena?

Alarmism is all about post hoc attribution of whatever event they can. Next up is, "Climate change may bring an exodus of swallows to San Juan Capistrano." Or, "Man-made climate change may be responsible for saltwater salmon being spotted swimming up fresh water streams." "Anthropogenic global warming may cause wildebeest to migrate the Serengeti."

Climate denier/contrarian/misinformer Roy Spencer has just put out the October, 2014 data for UAH. Preliminary - tied for warmest October on UAH record with October, 2012.

I'm wondering how the alarmists will attack his lies ocer this one.

Some of the easiest logic puzzles involve someone who always tells the truth and someone who always lies.

So even liars have to tell the truth occasionally.

Some of the most difficult logic puzzles involve someone who always tells the truth, someone who always lies, and someone who randomly tells lies.

On the other hand, it is also a possibility that the guy simply puts out what the data shows. No, this is not necessarily consistent with what he is accused of being. Maybe he could have adjusted the data to show a cooling trend.

This is why I like lukewarmists like him. He puts out the data. Doesn't try to adjust it or spin it. Just here it is, expect additional warmth the next couple of months. Kinda the opposite of the alarmist, who will insist that the colder it gets and the more ice and snow there is, the more proof there is of warming.
