***Where have all the "if you've done nothing wrong ..... " wankers gone?

Probably right over there next to the wankers who screamed outrage when Bush did it after 911, but remain strangely silent as Obama takes it to the extreme.

I've figured out that the outrage of the left at Bush was because Bush was so damned amateur. Bush was like Zuckerberg and the right like Facebook - easy enough to hate because he was honest about how he wanted to take over the world and mine for data.

Obama is like Larry Page and the left is like Google - gosh, such good guys who are trying to help everyone. But take a look at what it's doing and be blown away at the data it's collected. Facebook is a pretty amateur operation.

That's why Bush was hated. It was because the left just couldn't stand how "Bush League" Dubya was with how little he did with despotism.

The judge that ruled the bulk meta data collection is legal based his decision on SCOTUS Smith v Maryland. The problem is that Smith doesn't apply in anything more than the most cursory fashion, and Smith isn't much of a decision on its own.

Where have all the "if you've done nothing wrong ..... " wankers gone?

I have always had a problem with the whole "if you've done nothing wrong" meme. Richard Jewell did nothing wrong, yet the State destroyed him.
Just what is "wrong" and who makes that judgment? Right now it is Islamic extremism. But what happens when that threat dissipates? Where will the national security apparatus focus its efforts next? If it is on you, you will not be happy whether you did something wrong or not.

The 2008 law amending the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act allows the NSA to intercept the communications of suspected foreign terrorists without warrants. The data can include the communications of U.S. citizens as long as they aren’t the target of an investigation. A warrant is required to search the communications of Americans who are the focus of an investigation.

Remember during those heady days of "You are either with us or against us" and the onset of the Patriot Act.... I think a couple of us here did a bit of warning about this shit... and were called all kinds of things for it.>:(

Ummm - NO. I don't want neo-cons to be in charge of anything. They did enough damage from 2001 - 2008.
