Who Really is out of touch

The public overwhelmingly believes the country is headed in the wrong direction, that current economic policies aren't working, that President Obama is doing a bad job, that government should be smaller and that ObamaCare should be repealed. But not Democrats.

On issue after issue, in fact, Democrats are the outliers by wide margins, according to an analysis of the December IBD/TIPP survey.

It's a poor spin on a leading series of questions.

It's a shitty series of graphs, for a start, but from my understanding they asked a group of people to identify their political leanings, and then to answer the following:

'Current Conditions' questions...
Are you satisfied with the direction of the country?
Are you satisfied with current economic policies?
Do you think the Economy is improving?

'Blindly loyal to Obama' questions - (if that phrasing for a series of questions doesn't make you think the entire data is skewed, then what will?)
Do you think the president is doing a god job?
Would you class the handling of the economy as favorable or good?
Do you think the implementation of Obamacare has been average or better?

Extremist questions (If you answer yest to any of these your opinion is by definition 'extreme'... and we're supposed to think this is unbiased?)
Do you think the government should be bigger with more services?
Do you support Obamacare?
Do you think the government should provide healthcare to all Americans?

The questions themselves seem fair to me, but the categorization of them is ridiculous...
Then there's the claim that the Democrats are 'overwhelmingly out of touch with the rest of the population' - sorry. But you can't show that from the data presented there. All you can say is that the majority of people who identify themselves as Democrats tend to think the government is doing OK, while the majority of people who aren't democrats, don't.

No shit, Sherlock.

Without any graphs or skewed categories I could make exactly the same claims for people who identify themselves as Republicans if I set up questions that were central to their political stance - if we did the graphs of it, the red and blue bars would change, and the Independants would probably remain about the same...

Add to the fact that you source 'Investors.com' is heavily right-wing biased and it all becomes just more bullshit.

Data does not equal good data...

Hmm
Seems to go along with other polls

Young Americans are unhappy with virtually every major thing President Barack Obama has done since he was re-elected, and those under 24 would vote to recall him if given the chance today, according to the results of a Harvard University survey released on Wednesday.

The national poll by Harvard's Institute of Politics of more than 2,000 people aged 18 through 29 is intended to provide insight into the political views of the youngest U.S. voters, an increasingly influential demographic known as the "millennial generation."

And in 2008 that same demographic was pretty damn unhappy with Bush and strongly in favour of the new guy (Obama).

I think that by far the strongest common political denominator among young people is that they don't like The Man, whichever party he happens to beling to at the time.

If we are using vladamir putin as an example obama wouldn't even qualify as a man.

I don't even know which angle to use to make fun of you. Putin as your ideal of a leader, or Putin as a gay icon.

Let's go with the gay thing - are there not enough pictures of Obama fishing with his shirt off or horseback riding barechested for you to properly admire his manliness?

I suppose this is what you prefer in a man.

I'm sorry I don't think obama which probably never changed his own oil, or had to empty 4 yards of mulch into his yard with a shovel can qualify as a manly man. Ironic how you like to instantly refer to the gay slant when I refer the 'stuff' real men are made of. An no manual labor doesn't define a man, but someone willing to get dirty with the rest of the employees holds a much higher standard than someone that just gives the orders.

By that standard I believe I'm a manly man. I've even changed out my own water pump by the side of the freeway, and jerry-rigged an accelerator cable out of bicycle brake cable. Does that put hair on my chest?

But maybe I can't be, because I've never killed anything with a gun :|. I'm an OK shot, just don't choose to shoot anything but paper.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

I'm with regulator, and congratulations. You are definitely presidential material. Shooting paper is fine, and I'm sure under the right circumstances you would not be afraid to protect yourself from a 4 or 2 legged critter.

Apparently you are more of a man than I am. I haven't done any of it, nor would I know how.

Who do I give my man card to?

Who would have known that oil changes and mulch defined masculinity?

My 24 year old son in law lives in a brand new house his parents gave him that he doesn't do any work at himself. He hires a crew to mow his lawn and trim his shrubs. Hes had everything given to him on a silver platter and if he had to do any real work he'd be lost. Ill take trying and possibly screwing something up to do it myself and learn from my mistakes than to paying money every time to have someone else constantly do my work for me.

Situationally and contextually dependent.

You seem to be stuck on this idea of machismo, and if people don't meet it, it seems they're worth less to you. You'd have fit right in in Europe about 10 centuries ago.

You don't really get how this works, do you? If I'd said that Obama would be more manly if he was a metrosexual gym bunny then that would have been a valid comeback, but as it is you've only succeeded in showing that you've been trawling websites of semi-naked guys. Well played.

You're assuming that Obama can't do those things because you don't like him and you're assuming that Putin can do those things because you do like him. Do you see why it makes you look stupid to then use those assumptions as justifications for how you feel about them?

You referred to Vladimir Putin, and Vladimir Putin is (or was) a gay icon. And if Putin is your example of a real man, then the stuff that real men are made of is corruption, power lust, a deep appreciation of the secret police and a longing for how things used to be behind the Iron Curtain.

So according to some other right wingers around here, Obama's more of a man than the lot of us;)

Not a manly man, just a productive, inspired and ambitious woman.

Good for you.

The difference is, it would be OK if you played the girl card and had the man do that for you.:)
