Cause they are all in a hidden partition on that same drive. Of course you then find out that the original software is available on a 60 dollar dvd, if it is still in stock! AND not covered in your 100 dollar store protection plan. And O'h yea if you tell me you can make a back up disk before doomsday, that will actually work,... think again....the windows 8 operating system on your new laptop has software specifically designed, with the manufacturers co-operation, to thwart the copying of your software. C odd rant. But in fact, recently I was able to just exactly this with a failing drive on an HP laptop owned by a friend. I created the media off the backup partition and reinstalled. Win 7.
