Most of the top hospitals will accept insurance from just one or two companies operating under Obamacare." tkhayes 348 #4 November 2, 2013 they surveyed 18 hospitals? That's not really a sample..... Hospitals do not 'opt out of the ACA', they decide which insurance companies they will accept. And given that so many hospitals sub-contract they surgeons, doctors, nurses and such out to other companies, I doubt that this means anything really. Reads like a pretty skewed article to me with not much substance. QuoteConsumers, too, will struggle with the new system. Many exchanges don't even list the insurance companies on their web sites. Some that do, like California, don't provide names of doctors or hospitals. They don't provide the names of doctors and hospitals? So, you cannot call the insurance company to find that out if you wanted to? again, cherry picked selective information with an intent to skew the reality. wmw999 2,589 #5 November 2, 2013 I've had plenty of insurance policies that preferred some hospitals over others over the years. That's pretty common. I'll bet these hospitals opted out of the bronze plans, and that they already weren't opting into bronze-type plans with other insurance plans as well. Not entirely, but there's probably a pattern. grimmie 186 #6 November 2, 2013 The ACA has performance based hospital inspections. Many hospitals are afraid of it, because of the crappy care and over priced care. A friend in the industry says a lot of hospitals are going to be on the "hot seat" for their shoddy operating procedures.
kallend 2,150 #7 November 2, 2013 Yet another lame OP. It's not as if pre-ACA that some insurance/hospital combinations weren't covered. This is just as STUPID as the "death panel" comments.... lawrocket 3 #8 November 2, 2013 Plenty of hospitals look at the business decision of what to take. A couple of years ago the Mayo clinic quit taking Medicare bbecause of the peanuts reimbursement. If an insurance company or plan saves money like Medicare saves money, it makes the hospital less likely to take it. That means rationing. It means delays. Much akin to keeping the plan you like, if you want treatment, you'll get the treatment you'll get when they goddamned get around to it. Again, you can have any two of inexpensive, available on demand and high quality. You can have all three of expensive, low quality and rationed - and this happens in a command economy. My wife is hotter than your wife.
