quade 4 #26 October 31, 2013 I think most people who are at at least semi-literate understand most politicians do not write their own material. It's simply a matter of time commitments. Generally they give a lot of input and set their staff to the task and most folks would understand the plagiarism here is at the most basic level a failure of his writing staff. The bigger issue is Rand Paul doesn't seem to understand what it is he's saying. To me, that's a big deal. I don't really care if he's actually writing the material, but if he doesn't understand what it is he's READING . . . holy crap that's bad. And in this case, he clearly doesn't understand what he read nor the claim by Maddow. He's not just out of touch with the world, he's out of touch with his own staff.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
wmw999 2,600 #27 October 31, 2013 When Ron Paul first ran for Congress, he walked the district, talking to people. He spent 30 minutes or so with my dad, earning his vote forever (my father made me look pretty conservative Wendy P. There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. DaVinci 0 #28 November 5, 2013 Some reports are saying the video of the speech shows Paul using quotation marks in the air during the speech. The rules for attribution are different for speaking than writing anyway. I remember a class I had where we had to run all of our papers through a program that looked for plagiarism. Most papers even without quotes came back about 20% according to the program. Papers with heavy quotations were often much higher. This is much ado about nothing.... Aw crap, I guess I should reference that. Or you might be calling for my head on a pike... Crap, I guess I should reference that as well. This is all going to go downhill fast !@#$!$#! Now I have to reference THAT. Wait..... Do I have to reference me when I use "I guess I should reference that"?!?!?!?!?
quade 4 #29 November 5, 2013 DaVinciSome reports are saying the video of the speech shows Paul using quotation marks in the air during the speech. Well, that's simply wrong. Verifiably. He wasn't making a "reference" he was using the material word for word like some stupid high-school kids too lazy to write his own version so he simply copies and pastes.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

OK, provide the verification. I said that some reports said it... you say they are not. Please provide your proof.

Thank you, he does use the air quotes. He mentions in the first line: "In the movie Gattica". And his synopsis might be word for word on the wiki page. Bad taste, but a pretty good synopsis. I still fail to see how some are upset at this, but blew off the 57 States comment. Either both are an issue or neither. And Paul's comment could easily be credited to the speech writer ,if he used one.
Andy9o8 3 #33 November 6, 2013 Nope, plagiarism is one thing, conflabbing "states" with "varieties" is another.
