ChrisD 0 #1 October 28, 2013 Recently this surfaced in the wing-suiting section: "Female Black..." And as you can imagine a few posts got deleted.... Some of the supporters of this practice have pointed out how someone has "lost an opportunity.." I presume they are speaking about cash... Which is the problem that they don't understand.... Race and equality, whatever equality you are interested in is only represented in our media, think Movies, when someone is interested in a financial gain. Using this paradigm,... that means that others are loosers... Which is basically how media has distorted any semblance of humanity. The public media is the Anti Christ to what it actually means to be a human being. Hollywood is the Devils whore for all of us...Some may get a temporary thrill seeing and envisioning themselves as participants in Hollywood but the cost to society is too great. It's not about us folks....It's how "they" feel.... A very nice and sensitive person I know of is greatly offended by how society has sold out to the highest bidder... "and how so many of you can't see this for what it is...." So I thought I'd post this webb site / Blog (There are plento of others as well...) if you read the whole thing you may get a small sampling of what effects this kind of seemingly innocent requests have on others.... Black People CBut what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
normiss 898 #2 October 28, 2013 The posts that were deleted had absolutely nothing to do with race. The comments were joking responses mostly regarding a comical misspelling in the original post. Wingsuiting forum needs an active wingsuit jumper moderator IMO.

normiss 898 #4 October 28, 2013 It would help wonders to have a proper moderator there. They don't. Otherwise it's likely to allow threads to take a rather decent descent into silliness.
ChrisD 0 #5 October 28, 2013 Wheres Waldo? (Tom) He could do it,...DSE does a fine job as well, although he's not as nice as I am.... Seriously though, I've a number of close friends of color and they are vastly under represented here... When they and I have had this discussion about color, they generally point out how they don't like having this discussion about color. So sometimes I take the time to point out some of the more subtle ways our media brainwashes us into thinking a certain way at the expense of us all.... C And ya I'll admit it, I hijacked the thread....so shoot me... Recruit him, DSE that is...he's colorfull as well But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump." normiss 898 #6 October 28, 2013 Douglas is not a wingie mod. Need to clarify - because while Douglas IS a wingie mod, he is NOT a mod in the wingie forum.
DSE 5 #7 October 28, 2013 So Chris...help me understand why your avatar is an all-American hero? It seems you want to be identified with someone like John Wayne (or the Green Beret's) because of who/what they symbolize. A company was recently seeking a Chinese skydiver for an advertisement they wanted to film on the West Coast, to be aired in China. Another group wanted an African American woman because she would represent a specific ethnic group as well. We're all humans, but we all do feel more familiar and associated with one group or another, just as you've associated with The Duke. Moreover, film/television producers want to demonstrate and weave in specific threads in the fabric of humanity. Why is this a problem for you (or any one else?) And yes...were I a mod in the wingsuit forum, I'd have deleted your posts as well, simply because you took the thread well off-topic and used it as a political soapbox (and pissed off a very cool African American woman that would have been perfect for the part). quade 4 #8 October 28, 2013 Side note: DSE... is an all-American hero? Hmmm, calling John Wayne an "all-American hero" is a bit much. "Perceptual icon of America" maybe, but Wayne never did anything "heroic" that wasn't written in a movie script.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
normiss 898 #9 October 28, 2013 These days it seems very few people understand the definition of hero.

Unfortunate someone lets an internet troll influence their real life decision making processes. I don't know if it would have been a good opportunity or not, it sounded interesting at the least, being a stunt double?? Who wouldn't want to do that once in their life? But I do know that it is a sad day when internet trolls move into real world influence.
normiss 898 #13 October 28, 2013 Personally I'm not sure who/what the troll situation was.... I was under the impression she wasn't interested based on the the political/race comments that were made.
Bignugget 0 #14 October 28, 2013 normissPersonally I'm not sure who/what the troll situation was.... I was under the impression she wasn't interested based on the the political/race comments that were made. That (imo) is trolling. I didn't read the deleted comments, but the fact that the thread was cleaned to remove racist shit, is evidence of trolling. If that is what turned someone off about the project, that's a sad internet day. The thread was simply asking for some contact information about a certain demographic, pretty benign. (Unless of course the racist comments were made by the OP jtthames, but it didn't appear that way from what is still there) But w/e. I have been around the internet long enough to know better than to get trolled IRL from something someone types. I wish I was a black female wingsuit pilot, I would be a stunt double in a second, regardless of some idiots posting in a forum.

Like it or not, skydiving is predominantly white males and some have very strong personalities and aren't very welcoming of newbies in general. It has to be extraordinarily difficult to be a woman of color in some parts of the skydiving world.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

No not exactly, actually some blonde chick said it was cute or something to that effect....Would you like me to change it, I don't really care.... I tend to react to the forces in our society that perpetuate some social problems. So ya I tend to hit hard when and where I can. For most or for many this goes right over their heads and is a concept that is difficult to understand. If you like you can read some of Noam Chompsky's stuff or Sut Jhallys books as well, I may have misspelled their names a little.... Anyways media in America is a financial machine. This is my thesis. And it really isn't the most or best use of a very public forum. What are our children learning, and what did we learn as children that we are not even aware of and how does this equate to skydiving? To be clear I know a very loving "Dark skinned" woman who was raised in a different culture and who can see the effects of American media almost immediately. My conversations with her and others, as well as experiencing other cultures has left me with an awareness of the pain and suffering trying to achieve a goal that is not possible in this society has caused. American media supports this in so many ways, and this is not a good thing. This is all I'm trying to say... C These people do in fact feel the pain when they see something as in your opinion fairly innoccuious as searching for this or that ethnicticity. They came here to be skydivers, not representatives of their skin color. But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
