Obamacare Opt Out WARNING!

Recommended Posts

FIRST! I have no idea if this is true
But I will be looking into it

Quote

Will Sheehan claims that when he tried to sign up for Obamacare and then register to opt out, he received an ominous warning. Sheehan’s full Facebook post reads;

“I actually made it through this morning at 8:00 A.M. I have a preexisting condition (Type 1 Diabetes) and my income base was 45K-55K annually I chose tier 2 “Silver Plan” and my monthly premiums came out to $597.00 with $13,988 yearly deductible!!! There is NO POSSIBLE way that I can afford this so I “opt-out” and chose to continue along with no insurance.

I received an email tonight at 5:00 P.M. informing me that my fine would be $4,037 and could be attached to my yearly income tax return. Then you make it to the “REPERCUSSIONS PORTION” for “non-payment” of yearly fine. First, your drivers license will be suspended until paid, and if you go 24 consecutive months with “Non-Payment” and you happen to be a home owner, you will have a federal tax lien placed on your home. You can agree to give your bank information so that they can easy “Automatically withdraw” your “penalties” weekly, bi-weekly or monthly! This by no means is “Free” or even “Affordable.”

I see this and the smoker's surcharge to be the most interesting impacts.

I foresee debtor's prisons.....and poor low income stop smoking classes will be held there.

I dont know what to think at this point
So little of what have been told (by the Obama admin) is turning out to be true that it is real tempting to just believe something like this

But not yet
If true, it will be pointed out soon enough
Same for if it is false (which I suspect it to be right now)

But hey . . . at least they will have healthcare in prison. . . Oh, wait, we already do.

Seems to me, your "Oh, wait, we already do." comment, is much closer today, than what we are headed for in the not so distant future

I think it's close to what some will see.
That's still the biggest issue in my mind.

If I'm 23 and haven't been to the doctor since that physical in high school...what the hell do I need to spend $300/month on insurance for????

These people aren't going to buy - they simply cannot afford it.
The real kick is they can't afford either option now!

The families that faced layoffs and are now trying to get by by working a few part time jobs, with kids? Fucked. Totally.

I am seeing scattered reports of people who went to the sights to sign up for what they thought was going to be "free" health care. Anyone else seeing any of this?

Also, it is being reported that less than .6% of those who visited the CT sight actually signed up and some are wondering if the misconception of HC being free is part of it

(edited to fix percentage mistype)

I went to see what I'd be paying...didn't sign up...I need to figure out how the hell to pay for it first.

Did you have to give them a bunch of personal info before you could get to the point where you would know the cost?

As far as I can tell, it's only free if you earn $20,000 or less a year. if you make more than that, you can afford health care (According to the government)

What? You want a livable wage AND affordable health care? Next you will be telling me you want your cake AND to eat it to...

Not sure how everywhere else works, but I live in Colorado so I went through the CO health website as directed by the main site, looked up prices, gave them some info, and prices didn't change much...

I was just asking you this to see if your experience lined up with what the guy in the OP is saying

Not so much.

I've been weening myself off my parents teets over the past year and a half and health insurance is the only thing I have left to take my lips off. I'm ETA: contract labor, so no employer coverage. Looks like I'm crawling back to mommy and daddy til I turn 26 [:/]

The government will give subsidies for people who earn up to a certain number times the poverty level. I think for people with kids, it is up to 4x the poverty level. If you make less than that, then you'll get some help. The coverage will be free only if you don't make that much more than poverty.

I don't know all the detail because (like most people) I already have health insurance.
