The worst part of the gov't shutdown

Recommended Posts

I was reading somewhere that the grandstanding by Ted Cruz was more about building his warchest for a possible presidential run than actually trying to stop ACA.
So I guess you can't call it pointless since he has an objective.

Don't try to interject logic and reason into his conservative bashing statements . . . it just isn't fair.:S

money spent (wasted) on that cause is money that can't annoy us in a more tangible way, right?

Ted Cruz has convinced me he is a complete asshole with this statement:

"All across this country, Americans are suffering because of Obamacare. Obamacare isn't working, and yet fundamentally there are politicians in this body who are not listening to the people."

Now will someone 'splain to me how people are "suffering" from a program that "isn't working", when the program doesn't even start until NEXT YEAR???:S:S:S

Employers who are already dicking around with their plans or prepping for it to go into effect?

But what about the panda?

The real question is, who pays for the panda when it gets sick???

The govt?!?

Fuckin' freeloading panda.

Right! Panda needs to show a bit of personal responsibility instead of relying on taxpayer handouts.

The entire GOP tantrum can only be about an internal power struggle, because all the data from multiple sources suggest that the tantrum is a loser with the electorate as a whole.

Which temper tantrum?
Your side or the other side?
They are equally at fault.

Not by a long shot. Certainly not on this one.

ACA was voted on by both the House and Senate, signed into law by the President. Challenged by the Tea Party and confirmed as Constitutional by the Supreme Court.

It's the LAW. It's been vetted by the checks and balances system.

It's been voted to be repealed or otherwise modified 42 times. Every single time it has stood.

A small faction of people who don't like it are throwing a temper tantrum. Fuck those guys. Seriously. If you lost and have continued to lose for four years, it's simply childish to attempt to shut down the government over it on the eve of it going into effect and especially when shutting down the government won't even have the effect intended.

It's childish.

sure...given the situation, of course it stood. Just as the Democrats in 2007 even had the majority and they couldn't force action on troop withdraws from Iraq - the standing President could veto it.

It's very difficult to undo prior legislation that was passed on partisan lines, unless it had a sunset provision like the 1994 AWB. Even the Bush tax cuts, with their sunset, were politically unpopular to let expire. So long as a significant minority of voters like the legislation, removing it is hard.

--
I doubt there are very many losers, to date, with the ACA. There may be once it goes live and premiums change, or benefits that full time workers grew accustomed to get altered. And in longer time, it may go tits up on us. But right now, it's mostly fear. And it's already obvious that the status quo is built up a deck of cards, so it may have failed anyway.

Soon those who chose to roll the dice and not carry insurance will have to. I'm not prepared to call them losers of ACA - their gamble was based on society bailing them out when they rolled 1-1.

But if those in their 20s who were paying the 100/month type policies now find themselves paying double or triple, that's a loser group. It could be mitigated if the pricing approach means they would pay less in their 30s and 40s then they do currently. Have to look at the bigger picture, not just 2014.

There are obvious winners with ACA - those who could not get coverage at all, or those who were offered shitty coverage by their employer.

It's a tantrum from both sides. A president who is warning of horrors and terrors of a government shutdown. But making it known that defunding the ACA would be a far more disastrous thing to do than to shut down the government.

Then there's the GOP. Of course, the GOP could say, "the Constitution says that funding bills originate in the House. And we are not at the bidding of the President." But no, that would be accurate, and that doesn't interest the GOP.

As long as they continue to fight against each other instead of working together, we're fucked.
Ad nauseum.

disagree
The more they fight
The fewer laws are passed
the little freedom we have left we get to keep for while

Parts started a while ago
The effects are being seen across the country as full time jobs are cut to part time and insurance premiums climb faster than before obamacare
If you want a reason to hate Cruz, at least have a truthful one

It's childish.

Not one republican voted for it
It passed by using procedural back door tactics and has never been popular with the public

AND, congress has now given themselves a 75% subsidy for thier health care

So yet another exemption

Actually, the Obama admin gave them this subsidy

Calling this a temper tantrum is dishonest at best

But, I know for liberal supporters, it is more about what you feel than what is true
