Anti Vaccination Church Hit with Measles Outbreak

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen this here. Some of you might find it interesting. (Thanks to Nerdgirl for posting it on FB)

I had heard the story on mainstream media (CBS radio news station) and NEVER heard the fact that the church was anti-vaccination.
So much for the "Liberal media war on religion."

Wait, we need to fit your post into a neat little box: anti-liberal, or anti-religious conservative? Anti-media? Anti-matter?

A friend of ours, very bright guy, is a chiropractor. Very anti-vaccination. Didn't get his own kids vaccinated. Don't know how he got his kids' public school district (which they attended) to tolerate that, but I guess he did. We've heard all his rationale for it. We still think he's nuts - about that.

BTW, his objections are solely on grounds of chiropractic...ish philosophy.

Nothing in my life fits neatly into a labeled box. Including me.

I just found it interesting that the main reason for the outbreak (the lack of vaccination) is not being reported. At least on the one source I listened to. It may be being properly reported on other networks.

And I wonder if it's the "Will of God" that these idiots who preach so loudly against vaccination are getting sick from a disease that has largely been eliminated by...

Vaccination.

Autism is evil.
Jenny McCarthy says vaccines cause Autism.
Copeland thinks evil is combated by God.
Therefore; Jenny McCarthy is God.

It's a stretch.. but I'm on sarcastic humor mode today. ;)

Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

Luddites.

This is a "tragedy of the commons" issue and one also covered in most herd animal care courses.

IF your kid is the ONLY kid in the school who is not immunized, then the chances are he won't contract measles because, well, nobody else has them to give to the kid.

However, as the number of kids going unvaccinated rises, the chances rise dramatically.

In a herd where no kid is vaccinated, it's just going to happen. No question.

I saw an interesting article a few weeks ago how, it said if it were not for fundamentalist Muslims in Africa, Polio could be eradicated from the planet. It's funny how extremist from both religions always seem to find common ground, I remember Palin last year at the debates stating that the HPV vaccine causes mental retardation, not too many on the Right were willing to call her nuts.

Religion and science are not a good mix.
