jailbot 0 #1 August 16, 2013 Sorry guys, but I can't stay quiet any more. I have a bad habit of speaking out opinions, so here goes nothing. The past few months on this website have been enjoyable, and certainly informative. However, I am noticing a trend that needs to be stopped. Thread derailment. Now, let me be the first to say it before someone else does: "Who is this guy with only four posts, a 2013 join date, and a fresh A-License to make such a bold statement?" I assure you, I've been around elsewhere on the internet long enough to know what I'm talking about, the same as most of you. (Any /b/tards in here?) As far as the skydiving scene goes, I'm as green as they get. That aside, what I can't get over are the constant flame wars and thread derailments that happen on a regular basis. Don't turn a blind eye guys. You can click on almost every other thread and find an example varying in severity, and you all know it. Have an example: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4521246;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread Sure, I'll troll as much as the next guy, and the few of you who know what a /b/tard is are wondering why I'm complaining. Look, there is a time and place for everything on the internet, and I think it shouldn't be happening here. Between people damn near harassing rookies and each other over gear opinions, or people nitpicking details on an incident instead of paying respect to a death, this place astonishes me. I might be making more of an issue out of this that everyone here thinks it is and if that's the case, I apologize. I'm just feeling like this forum should be a little more...mature? All things considered I can certainly say I won't be leaping to post or be a part of the "community" anytime soon for fear of being flamed to death. jbx

Speakers Corner is not exactly the best place to air this out. wolfriverjoe 1,523 #3 August 16, 2013 Meh, it happens. It takes a lot for a thread to get locked down or for the mods to step in and start deleting posts (outside of incidents). Even the blatant trolls have to get way out of hand, and they get warned a time or two before they disappear. Hang around long enough, and you learn who to read carefully and who to ignore in the topical forums. There actually is a large amount of good advice given out on here. And there's a pretty solid group of people who are the ones giving it on a regular basis. DaveLepka, 'Twardo, Pops, Ron, ChuckAkers, Billvon, NWFlyer are the first ones that come to mind, there are a lot of others. The "Signal to Noise Ratio" seems to be a bit higher than normal at the moment. It tends to go up and down. Take the good, ignore the bad. Post nicely, don't ask for advice, then ignore it, then ask for more advice (especially if it's regarding a choice that went against advice you asked for a week ago). Edit to add: You want maturity?!? From this bunch of yahoos!?!"There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
rhaig 0 #4 August 16, 2013 there would be less thread derailment if everyone had a gun. We should make a forum rule that requires that. After all, an armed forum is a polite forum.-- Rob
linebckr83 3 #5 August 16, 2013 You put a bunch of opinionated A-types in a room and that's whatcha get. I do know what you mean though. I'm a member of boating/wakeboarding/fitness forums and they are all much more relaxed and get along. But I've also learned that skydiving attracts different people than does boating or wakeboarding. Those types of people, for the most part, are non-confrontational and laid back. It just comes with the territory, don't let it bother you."Are you coming to the party? rehmwa 2 #6 August 16, 2013 This is what happens when green energy is denied to Libertarian gay bullies on food stamps. you take away their guns and suddenly everyone is required to use an AAD and treat USPA Coaches like they know anything. Frankly, we should just get out of Iraq until they pass law to require everyone to be Vegan. ... jgoose71 0 #8 August 16, 2013 linebckr83 You put a bunch of opinionated A-types in a room and that's whatcha get. wmw999 2,589 #9 August 16, 2013 You can always start an "on topic" thread. And feel free to ignore the bullshit. Of course, sometimes that means you don't pay attention to much here (which can be a good thing ) Wendy P. There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
oldwomanc6 60 #10 August 17, 2013 This particular forum is for arguing. Sometimes the arguments make sense, sometimes they are so ludicrous as to make one wonder what these poor folks had for breakfast that screwed up their thought processes. If you want to talk about skydiving, there are forums to to that. I'm not sure the last time that skydiving had much if anything to do with SC. lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB
