During the early morning hours of April 4, 2009, 42-year-old Roderick Scott was asleep on the couch of his Greece, New York home, just outside of Rochester. He was awakened by some noise outside.

Scott looked out the window and saw three teens attempting to break into his car. He grabbed his gun, for which he had a legal permit, put it in his waistband and told his girlfriend to call 911 before going outside.

When Scott went out, he confronted the youths, who were going through a neighbor’s car. According to Scott, he told them to stop and wait for the police. The incident ended after Scott fired two shots at Christopher Cervini, killing him.

According to 15-year-old James Cervini, one of the three, and Christopher’s cousin, Scott shot Christopher after the teen yelled, “Please don’t shoot me, I’m just a kid.” Scott, who testified in his own defense, said he only fired after Christopher came running at him in a threatening manner.

You can read the story. Basically, a black man killed an unarmed white teen. He was acquitted by claiming self-defense. There doesn't appear to have been a public outcry for justice.

I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Further, she LEFT THE HOUSE, got the gun, AND WENT BACK. So she had zero standing to use self defense since she pressed the situation. Yes, some claim Zimmerman did as well, but he says he did not, evidence could point that he did not... She ADMITTED to it.

Now, do I think is is a good ruling? Of course not. But it was people like you who push against anything gun related that brought about the draconian system of 10-20-life and made it so that anything other than true self defense is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

She made a stupid move, people like you made it illegal and with mandatory sentencing.

I think she should be set free.... But people like you pushing and anti-gun agenda made that next to impossible. I in fact have written Gov Scott and asked that he look into a pardon.

We happened to be discussing Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson in this thread. That was why I posted what I did. When it get's down to it, I wouldn't give you 2-cents for any televangelist or 'big name' preacher. the best percentage of them are in it for the big, tax-free bucks. That's all. To me, they are frauds preying on people. I don't care if they are black, white or purple. There seems to be a double Standards among the fandom torward The Canterlot ponies. That's why the special prosecutor in this case should be disbarred for bypassing a grand jury AND for prosecutorial malpractice in not presenting exculpatory evidence.

If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead.

Calling statistics "racist", or a result of a law "racist", or an ongoing situation "racist" is as bad as blaming the statistic, result, or situation on the race of the people it involves. Either way you're pointing at an ethnicity as the ongoing cause of a problem, and that's step one in not improving anything.

A Florida sheriff is predictably being called a racist after accusing the local NAACP branch of having a double standard by “picking and choosing which issues it rallies around,” and cited Trayvon Martin’s death as an example.

For the first time in five years, Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott will not attend or donate to the group’s annual fundraiser and he sent a scathing letter to local branch president James Muwakkil explaining why.

“I simply find myself unable to support your professional agenda, which I believe actually contradicts the end goal of eliminating double standards,” Scott wrote.

Citing the NAACP’s attention and reaction to the Martin-Zimmerman case that took place in another Fla. county, the sheriff wrote that perhaps the group should pay attention to the “epidemic” of “young, black males” being shot to death by “young, black males” in the Fort Myers area.

“To date, I am unaware of any appreciable attention or public outcry the NAACP locally or nationally have afforded these issues in our own, proverbial backyard,” Scott said, adding, “The noticeable lack of involvement and attention given those tragedies by the NAACP begs the question why in my mind.”

Scott’s second criticism was how the group demanded, shortly after Zimmerman’s acquittal, a portrait of the county’s namesake General Robert E. Lee be removed from the city’s council chambers.

“You don’t want to put a symbol that represents some and oppresses others,” Muwakkil said of the Lee painting in an interview with WFTX-TV.

But Scott suggested the timing of such a demand was nothing more than “race baiting.”

“While I am not black, I continue to be amazed by what is deemed ‘racially offensive and/or insensitive’ and what is not,” Scott wrote.

Scott asked Muwakkil in the letter how the “rampant use” of the n-word, (which he spelled out twice in full), in the hip-hop culture and among “top, black comedians” “apparently stirs little to no emotions among blacks but the portrait of General Lee does?”

Scott’s letter sparked a war of words with Muwakkil for the past week, according to multiple local news sources.

“He didn’t need to use the entire word,” Muwakkil said to the Marco Island Sun Times. “It was ugly and it was offensive and it was unmanly and it was un-sheriff-like.”

“This is Sheriff Scott being a racist, hiding behind his badge…voters should be looking to vote him out of office for misuse of his office, his arrogance,” WBBH News reported Muwakkil said.
