Detroit files for bankruptcy

All these liberal states and cities will fall like domino's.

You'd best hope not, as they are paying the way for the red states.

Debatable, if for no other reason that the states in question from that famous chart aren't all solid red and the data is quite old now.

That being said, I'm quite sure states could get along just fine on their own if we weren't wasting massive amounts of our own income by throwing it away to the Fed. Imagine what your state could do if it got an extra 10% of your income instead of the Fed getting 20+% and pissing it away. Everybody walks away happy.
You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

A city official notably said the federal government should bail out Detroit, though the president has made no indication that’s a possibility.

Care to make a wager?

they will get the bail out some how

this is about protecting liberalism

My bet is they get our money

Speaking of bets, recall this and I found it.

"We refused to throw in the towel and do nothing. We refused to let Detroit go bankrupt. We bet on American workers and American ingenuity, and three years later, that bet is paying off in a big way." - President Obama, Oct. 2012

Tits have sold untold numbers of cars.

Don't forget trucks and beer too. B|

And chicken wings, motorcycles, girly magazines and...
Come to think of it, if it weren't for tits there probably wouldn't be an economy.

Tits have sold untold numbers of cars. Visiting an Italian car show would be on my bucket list (if I had one).

I think Detroit should go through the bankruptcy process and let creditors eat everything possible for most of their debt.

The pension plan(s) are the only thing that should be considered for a bailout. The Federal government is not in the business of paying creditors. Even their own. B|

I think the creditors will starve. Last time I went through Detroit, I was the only car on the freeway in downtown. Well, I saw one patrol car. Otherwise, it was just me in a maze of concrete overpasses and elevated expressway. The high rise buildings were covered in graphitti, boarded up, and abandoned. There were some houses that look like they had watched the city for a century. They were once grand houses. Now, gone to seed.

I swear it looked like something from 'Escape from New York' everywhere I went. There isn't anything to rebuild. It's lost as far as I could tell.
I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

The unions, those great supporters of BHO, are petitioning for federal bailout.

Several cities in California and now a major U.S. city gone down.

Rick, I know you have found a survival enclave. We have one more week in suberbia than we will be in the mountains.

Prepare for SHTF people. Most of you voted for an administration that will guarantee the worst.

There should be no bail out.

If you hold Detroit city debt, you lose most of your bond.

If Detroit city hold your pension money, you get a buyout percentage just like Delta did with their pilots.

Sorry, tough luck. You backed a lame horse.

I absolutley agree with you
But, my bet is that is not what is going to happen

That would be the sequence in a free market. We do not appear to have a free market anymore.

The weird thing to me is that people who scream about the rich getting richer seem to support bailouts. Bailout money goes to ensure big companies can still pay bonuses to those who made poor decisions (OK. A bit cynical, but not far off.).

If they were 'paying the way' then they would not be gong broke..... Sheesh

WRONG, as usual.

Michigan is a net donor to Federal revenues. 7 of the top 10 sponger states are "red" states.

So you're saying that if the feds took less money from Michigan then Detroit may be solvent? Your comments are very Ayn Randish - sponges sucking the life out of the producers.

The predicted end result when the government represents Liberal Democratic Socialism.

I am an east cost kid that lived in Detroit in the early 90's. It was a dump then and i have nothing nice to say of the place. I also do not consider myself a liberal when it comes to fiscal policies. with that said i do not think anyone could save that city. the city no longer has the demand for labor that created it in the first place. market conditions, the ebb and flow of a free market world doomed the city IMO.

i dont think a Republican could have turned it around any more than Rome or Istanbul can turn it around. The world has moved on and Detroit is destined to be a dump. IF it had nice weather and ruins, like Rome and Istanbul, it could survive on tourism but it doesnt. It has hot, humid, bug filled short summers and long, dark, cold winters. No one visits Detroit, you are forced to live their for economic reasons. Reasons that no longer favor living there.

(edited to fix material error in were i lived)

Wash Post reported today that other cities will soon follow. It's their only legal solution as it's impossible to raise enough money to pay the debt.

anyone care to make any predictions the percentage of Dem run cities vs Rep run cities?

and I bet the Fed will provide our tax dollars to bail out the retirment funds

Just like TARP mainly when to states unionized workers
