That toddlin' town

A wonderful State with ZERO Republicans

1) There are more people on Welfare in Illinois than there are people working.

2) Chicago pays the highest wages to teachers than anywhere else in the U.S.averaging $110,000/year.

3) Their pensions average 80-90% of their income. You can't blame that on republicans because there aren't any.

Wow, are Illinois and Chicago great or what?

Be sure to read till the end. I've never heard it explained better. Perhaps the U.S. should pull out of Chicago?

1) Body count: In the last six months 292 killed (murdered) in Chicago.

2) 221 killed in Iraq AND Chicago has one of the strictest gun laws in the entire US.

Here's the Chicago chain of command:
. President: Barack Obama
. Senator: Dick Durbin
. House Representative: Jesse Jackson Jr.
. Governor: Pat Quinn
. House leader: Mike Madigan
. Atty. Gen.: Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike)
. Mayor: Rohm Emanuel
. The leadership in Illinois- all Democrats.
. Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago.

. Of course, they're all blaming each other.
. Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any!
. Chicago school system rated one of the worst in the country. Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any!

. State pension fund $78 Billion in debt, worst in country. Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any!

.Cook County (Chicago) sales tax 10.25% highest in country. Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any!

. This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois. And he was going to 'fix' Washington politics for us??? George Ryan is no longer Governor, he is in the big house. Of course he was replaced by Rob Blajegovitch who is...that's right, also in the big house. And Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. resigned a couple of months ago. That is because he is fighting being sent to...that's right, the big house. . The Land of Lincoln, where our governors make our license plates.

But you know what? As long as they keep providing entitlements to the population of Chicago, nothing is going to change, except the state will go broke before the country does.

Blatantly false.

Dozens of Republican signs down my street last November, and I live in Illinois.

Chicago is not even in the top 10 cities for homicide RATE.

You should try a fact checker instead of chain emails.

As for teachers' pay, I see no problem with paying teachers well. They deserve it more than, say, marketing execs or lawyers.

Doesn't happen often, but I fully agree with the professor here, at least in regards to the teachers in the classrooms. School administrators? ... not so sure about them. Or maybe I have let a few bad apples (like the mess that is going on in Ontario) spoil my view on the Edu'crats

Agreed. Teachers are responsible for making sure our kids get to live good lives. Why anyone would want to skimp on our kids futures, I cannot understand. The future of the world depends on the good education of our kids.

Chicago gains in global cities ranking

By Kathy Bergen
Posted Aug. 17, 2010 at 4:29 p.m.

Chicago moved up two slots, to No. 6, in an updated ranking of global cities, coming in behind New York, London, Tokyo, Paris and Hong Kong.

The ranking aims to show how much influence a city has beyond its own borders. It was conducted by Foreign Policy magazine, management consulting firm A.T. Kearney and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, and comes two years after the inaugural ranking by these same parties.

The top four cities retained their hold over the two-year period, though the ranking also showed growing momentum in Asia and the Pacific, with five of the 10 cities deemed most global. In addition to Tokyo and Hong Kong, those cities included Singapore, Sydney and Seoul.

Chicago among world's top 10 business hot spots

By Paul Merrion June 05, 2013

Chicago is poised to become the second-most competitive U.S. city by 2025, and it will rank ninth worldwide in terms of its ability to attract capital, talent, businesses and people, according to a study released yesterday.

Along with New York, which is projected to replace Singapore as the most competitive urban area in the world, Chicago is the only other U.S. city in the top 10 among 120 global cities studied by the London-based Economist Intelligence Unit in a report commissioned by Citigroup Inc. London came in second, followed by Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Sydney, Paris and Stockholm.

The comprehensive study looked at 32 indicators and 17 sub-indicators of competitiveness, such as economic strength, physical capital, financial maturity, institutional character, social and cultural character, human capital, environment and natural hazards and global appeal.

After benchmarking cities in 2012, this year's analysis projected Chicago will move up three notches to ninth place by 2025.

That's the job of the parents. The teachers jobs are to educate the children in knowledge and marketable skills to help them succeed in the working world once they leave the nest.

Here's a video I took this morning showing just how run-down Chicago is.

vimeo.com/70505638

There are 9 other equally run-down harbors in the city.

I must get me one of those quadcoptor remotes.. that is pretty cool!
And uh, yes. Terribly run down. Those harbours are in worse shape than south Hong Kong.

Let's just examine each one....

1) There are more people on Welfare in Illinois than there are people working.

If you care to split hairs I'd say this a mostly false however, when there are 4.9 million private sector jobs and 4.7 million are receiving some form of government handout it's nothing to be proud of.

2) Chicago pays the highest wages to teachers than anywhere else in the U.S.averaging $110,000/year.

3) Their pensions average 80-90% of their income.

80% graduation rate from High School. Obviously strong teacher's unions don't make for high graduation rates. In Chicago the graduation rate drops to 60%. Way to go! Something to be proud of.

1) Body count: In the last six months 292 killed (murdered) in Chicago.

2) 221 killed in Iraq AND Chicago has one of the strictest gun laws in the entire US.

A quick look here shows the war zone that is the city.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/chicago-homicide-rate-2013 Many murders and lots of folks getting shot but thankfully not dying.

Chicago school system rated one of the worst in the country

http://www.forbes.com/2007/07/05/schools-taxes-education-biz-beltway_cz_cs_0705schools.html $9300 per pupil and a rank of 74 out of 100. You must be thrilled.

State pension fund $78 Billion in debt, worst in country

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20130110/NEWS07/130109847/pension-fund-rankings-by-state-were-no-50 Yep...last. Hope those high priced teachers don't live too long.

.Cook County (Chicago) sales tax 10.25% highest in country

Gotta pay those teachers.

I like Chicago. My step daughter lives in Lincoln Park. Been there many times. It's a nice place to visit. Really it is.

How come the government doesn't pay parents to have kids? Oh, wait...

I just work there. Live in the 'burbs.

It's a beautiful city by the lake. Sure beats ANYTHING in Texas or Florida (well, except in January).

Agreed. I just wanted to make certain everyone knew who is running the show. Seems that the Dems may have the upper hand on the nat'l level, but on a state and local one they are as dirty as it gets. My home town is the same.

As long as you stay in the "right" areas, yeah it's a great city.

Ranked in the top 5 of segregated cities in America. (Right up there with the one I live in.) I dunno - it's easy to say Chicago is great until you consider the fact that we're both white middle class people who never have to go into the bad parts of town.
