Ask to see the warrant? That's a jailing!

From the article: "McDonald said the Slaton Police Department will issue an apology as long as the mother agrees not to file a lawsuit."

Having been offered similar terms myself by an American enforcement agency, I am particularly disgusted by that.

DON'T DO IT!
Don't let them off the hook. An apology is nothing.
My reality and yours are quite different.

An apology is the right thing to start with. However, the fact that the department made it conditional, also makes it meaningless.

The honorable thing would be for a leader in the department to apologize regardless of the expectations of any action - that would be the right and sincere thing to do. Apologize with no strings attached. then deal with the fallout anyway.

Yes, by offering a contingent apology haven't you already admitted doing something you shouldn't have?

Hence the reason I told my lawyers to ignore the overture and continue with the litigation. Now, if we could just convince your Federal District Court 9 to hear the damned thing. We're well into month 19 of that part of the effort... :S

Incidentally, Canadians are not typically litigious by nature and I'm sure not seeking any financial compensation. I just would like to see a representative of the enforcement agency forced to look justices in the eye and justify their actions.

And then look me in the eye and... apologize... unconditionally.
