This explains so much about the republican position. If these women could just adopt the thought patterns of the superior man's mind, they would understand that there are costs to things - and probably become republican to boot! Perhaps that's why there aren't many female CEO's - the way they think "in their brain and in their own world" just isn't suited to such complexities.

Do you want a Democratic House and a Speaker Pelosi? A filibuster-proof Senate? A President Hillary? Better yet, a President Biden? Hey, I know- Barney Frank's a Harvard-educated lawyer; Jerry Brown's a Yale-educated lawyer. Both have worked in government their whole adult lives. Earl Warren was never a judge before he became Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, so how about Frank and Brown for the next two Supreme Court Justices?

It's hard to say this was taken out of context when he flat out says "the incidence of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low."

Last year Marg posted a cite elsewhere that, IIRC, said that about 5% of rapes result in pregnancy, which is about the same for unprotected sex in general. Basic biology, really.

Requiring a victim to report a crime within 48 hours or else seems rather punitive. Makes me think of Muslim (and other) countries that shun a girl for no longer being a virgin, or worse beat or kill her for engaging in unmarried sex (due to rape).

But maybe he's just a lousy speaker. In the context of late term abortion, he could have argued that it would be very rare for a rape victim to wait so long into the pregnancy before moving to terminate. Which may well be true, but it again seems a bit insensitive to the injuries (mental and physical) inflicted on the victim. A devout Catholic may believe it immoral to have the abortion but eventually come to realization that she would hate this baby. This might take longer than 48 hours or even 48 days.
