Evidently trespassing and illegal entry are SOP in Boulder. Nice.:|

From the article:

Quote

the officer was visiting Smiley's home to follow up on another officer's attempt to serve her a summons for a dog off leash violation and failure to remove animal excrement.

Smiley, who said she did not see the other officer's card which was left on her front door, did not respond to that officer's request for contact, before the second officer made his visit.

Sgt. Jim MacPherson said Boulder police have dealt with Smiley on a number of issues and she is usually not cooperative.

While it is a tad troubling that the police are letting themselves into people's private residences, one needs to only dig a little deeper into this story to see the woman behind this story has a little history of her own and as a former resident of Boulder, I have to say I am not all that surprised. Of course not everyone in Boulder is a nut bar, but there is not shortage of nut bars in that town.

Regardless of her history she still has rights.

do get that feel. And it looks like she doesn't pick up after her dog, either. (So kill her!)

But what does it say about crime and policing in Boulder if they have time to serve a summons for petty dog stuff?

It tells us that Boulder does not have a huge problem with crime (something I already knew since I lived there for 4+ years), except for the cops who let themselves into other people's homes.

But one would think they may be short on cops, since they have lost 3 already this year:

I'm wondering what the reprocussions would be if the homeowner, exercising their 2nd Amendment rights and/or castle doctrine... were to shoot dead the intruder. :|

well, are the LEO's shouting out - 'Police! Anyone here?' before entering the open back door? Since they have stated they're concerned about a crime in progress, they may not be so forthcoming, which does give the potential for an unnecessary shooting of either the resident or the officer.
