Global temps continue to fall

I like your point, though. Let's add to it.

No, it was sufficiently succinct. There's no need for twenty-seven eight-by-ten color glossy pictures with the circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one is. No one would look at them, anyway.

Which credible theory accepted by the scientific community suggests that increasing atmospheric CO2 concentrations will result in lower global temperatures?

Blues,
Dave

We'll know in a few hundred more threads about the same exact subject.

Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

This is why it is notable that despite the highest CO2 levels in history, current global temperatures are not even in in the top ten. It has become apparent that CO2 is not the powerful climate driver that was once thought. Recent papers have reduced the influence of CO2 on the climate by about one third. This undermines the circa 1980's understanding of climate, which the IPCC reports have been based on.

There isn't one. But that's a loaded question.

The temperature isn't dropping. It's paused. This is nothing new. Here's a post I made on here 4 years ago...

[Quote]But with regard to trends, there is some stuff to chew on with regard to predictions. It is hypothesized that the earth's radiative balance is out of whack because of greenhouse radiative forcing and lagging ocean response. This was calculated to be an excess of .8 Watts per square meter around 200. (Hansen, J. et al. (2005), Earth’s energy imbalance: Confirmation and implications. Science, 308, 1431-1435.)

The increasing CO2 emissions of 20 ppm should have increased this absorption/emission deficit by .2 Watts per square meter. Considering ocean mixing, we should have seen a .25 degree C increase in global temperature since 2001.

Prior ups and downs have been seen. Decreases linked to tropical volcanoes and strong La Nina events, with peaks linked to strong El Nino events can be seen over the last 50 years.

The AGW theory has predicted increases in global temperature absent some dynamic change, such as volcanoes or El Nino/La Nina. Since 2001, these high amplitude changes have not occurred and not been linked to volcanoes.

Several papers have suggested a shift in climate since 2001 - globally. There is no identified cause of the halting in warming since 2001. IT will take time and more studies to confirm that global warming has halted - I understand and admit that.

Furthermore, it appears that while warming has halted, global cooling did not.

To reach any conclusions regarding the from this data is premature. Are we seeing a pause that we will come out of? Will global warming begin anew next year? IN ten years? In 50 years? We cannot say.

But - the science says we should expect an increase of .20 W per square meter assuming ocean mixing depth of 200 meters with a 20 ppm increase since 2000. This correlates to a .25C increase in temperature barring some supervening proximate cause that we understand and model.

The temperature increase has not occurred, which means that questions must be asked as to what is the proximate cause of this event. It implies that internal mechanisms that are not yet understood or possibly even known may have a more powerful effect than we know.

We should have seen a .35 increase in temps. Event a .10 increase in temps would not be explainable by a credible theory accepted by the scientific community.

In my mind, there is doubt. I'm fine with that. "I don't know" is better thatbeing wrong. Doesn't mean I don't state my beliefs. But I'm more than happy to change my statement and beliefs. I'll correct myself when called out on error.

Here's an example of my thinking:
"We absolutely must leave room for doubt or there is no progress and no learning. There is no learning without having to pose a question. And a question requires doubt. People search for certainty. But there is no certainty. People are terrified — how can you live and not know? It is not odd at all. You only think you know, as a matter of fact." - Richard Feynman

While lawyers will argue for whichever side pays the most, scientists follow the evidence.

Unless they go in with a preordained decision of what the results should be. Then they make it fit. Or if they've been publishing on one topic so long that they ha base their entire reputation on a certain theory. Then they refuse and refute as long as they can. Or if their grants are from sources who believe a certain way, and if you give them answers they don't want you don't get more grants. Or ....
witty subliminal message
Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards.

From your article: "The warming effect from more CO2 greatly outstrips the influence from changes in the Earth’s orbit or solar activity, even if solar levels were to drop to Maunder Minimum levels."

Riddle me this professor, if CO2 overwhelms natural forcings, then why are current temperatures, according to NOAA, not even in the top 10?

BTW thinkprogress.org is not a peer reviewed publication. Oh wait, never mind.

Brother Bill's backyard,...

If you have money and I mean lot's of money,...

How to keep wind farms from showing up at your (8 - 9 ) Vaacation home!

" Perhaps the most disturbing element of the interview was Koch’s unapologetic disclosure of his strategy to stop Cape Wind from getting built: “Delay, delay, delay.” So, now it’s official: Koch is trying to bog down Cape Wind until we give up."

Brought to you by the same people that fund all of this "global Warming nonsense."

Are yo all aware of the Alaska "Relocation Project," that is funded and takeing place as we speak?

Due to Global Warming:

Right now?

Why don't you take your shitty ass observation and put it wheer it belongs? :$

What do you have to say to the folks in NY that suffered the effects of the Storm Surge, a recent record setting event BTW?

What are you going to tell Indonesia and India...That they are mistaken when they are spending billions to relocate populations away from the coast? To protect their people, right now??

Why don't you come to England to see the efforts involved with the "Watershed" and Upper Thames relocation projects?

Were you at the euro Global Warming summit? (I wasen't , but I did read with great amusment the comments about how fucked the Americans are!)

Ozone depletion anyone??? GO tell it to the Aussies and their recent increase in skin Cancer!

Are yo aware of how building codes have changed, WORLD WIDE, near coastal areas?

Didn't think so...

This will go abouve way too many heads:

But let him / her enjouy their "Feed lot Beef" in peace.

I would hope they enjoy at least 4 - 8 servings per week, at that rate they won't have to worry about Global Warming.

>:(

At least your witty , Give ya that!!! :)
Actually Ann Romney got the bigist tax break when they claimed their (alien) landscape company cost's at their Belmont Home, right after they moved from UT, when he ran for Gov in MA, and was not a resident! This was just one of the reasons they rufused to disclose, as required by law, their finances.

Ya and I alrady know I can't spell...

My wife and I were involved in a relocation project roughly 5 years ago. Worked out well, we love the new home, great community, schools and such...just no snow for the last 3 years>:(

[Reply]What do you have to say to the folks in NY that suffered the effects of the Storm Surge, a recent record setting event BTW?

A record event? By what measure? By raw dollar damages amount? Of course - $300 million dollars meant a lot more in 1938 than it did last year - today it would have been a $5 billion hit whenn inflation is considered.

Why 1938? Because that was when a Category 3 Hurricane made a direct hit on Long Island - it was called the "Long Island Express." It killed a few hundred people. And note - it was less populated then. And there weren't electronics then. Had that storm hit today, we are talking about a $40 billion to $50 billion damage bill. And that storm glaced NYC - eastern Long Island, Connecticut, Mass and Rhode Island took the brunt.

For some reason, it remains the most powerful, higest wind (150 mph gusts), highest surge (over to 30 feet), and all with CO2 of less than 380 ppm. Take a look at some more history, look at the years "1944" and 1954 (two hurricanes hit Massachussetts in two weeks. "It wasn't the climate change, then, stupid, but it would be now."

For chrissake, looking at the stats indicates that increasing CO2 concentration has correlated to a decrease in hurricanes (and satellites have meant an increase in detection).

So, yes, "Sandy" may have set some records, maybe the "most damage ever caused by a storm that was not a hurricane at landfall."
