I went and read the article in Newsweek that's likely the basis for the WND one that you linked to. In there (article posted by Daily Beast, it says

While many might assume the perpetrators of such assaults are closeted gay soldiers, military experts and outside researchers say assailants usually are heterosexual. Like in prisons and other predominantly male environments, male-on-male assault in the military, experts say, is motivated not by homosexuality, but power, intimidation, and domination. Assault victims, both male and female, are typically young and low-ranking; they are targeted for their vulnerability

Whether it's of men or of women, rape is more about power than it is about sex. There's no proof either way until someone is convicted. Until 1990, there wasn't an offense classification for male-on-male sexual assault. I'm sure it's not because it didn't exist -- there were closeted gays in the military then, too.

I'll check into the original data links that you posted later on today or sometime tomorrow; it's time to head out now.

And according to The Washington Times (hardly a liberal rag), the rise in male-on-male sexual assault does not reflect the increase of homosexuals in the military but, rather, those assaults are ”somewhat similar to prison rape.”

Looks to me like some conservatives are just trying to make political points.

Most are. I'm sure you've never met any though. And they haven't missed anything either.

You're right, I have never encountered a troop in my life. You can't see it, but I wiped a tear away as I typed that.

So what, Do you think all troops are heroes?
None of them are ever rapists, or murders?
None of them are just psychos who wan to kill someone?
None of them are ever become traitors?

Do you need it to be in black and white to be comfortable or is it you truly are unaware that even in the troops there are good guys and scum bags just like anywhere else?

I find that whenever people have a hard reaction to a question it’s because they can’t stand the truths that might put a crack in there beliefs.

Reading comprehension skills are a bit weak. I said most are heroes. Nobody's perfect anywhere....even skydivers. You might even be a rapist, murderer, or traitor.

How do you define "most"? A majority of servicemen and women are never in a combat role.

For example, sitting in a missile silo in South Dakota is not exactly the stuff heroes are made of.

These days civilians are as much at risk as non-combat military personnel.

no....but they do get their own medals

apparently today, a hero is

anyone that that shows up to work (teachers are heros, cops are heros, etc etc etc)

children that call 911 before changing their soiled pants

and anyone that gets into a local news story lately - anyone....they just have to be the topic of the story and the intro lead in has the words "local hero" in it "Local beekeeper hero donates honey to food shelter - more at 10". "Local hero mom talks sternly to referee at son's basketball game - tune in at 6". "college professor ducks as he almost hits himself with remote airplane - let's see the interview of this local hero..right after these messages"

...
Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

You don't have to be in a war zone to be a hero. The personal sacrifice every person makes to be in the military is enough for me.

Whom do you think a hero figure should be?

You don't have to be in the military to be in a war zone, and being in the military doesn't necessarily put you in a war zone.

Wasn't long ago all you gung-ho types were complaining about the medal for drone operators.

Being in the military is just a job, more honorable than some, less honorable than others. Wearing a uniform doesn't make one a hero any more than not wearing one precludes it.

Exorbitant. And what is "Factorials!" anyway? Some kind of recursive lesson?

:D

Factorials! is just the word Factorials, followed by punctuation. Sorry for the ambiguity, but it's the only way I know to get people to pay $6! for a tutoring session.
