I agree that the US, and Army, etc. didn't think anything whatsoever about religion. But given the way media works in any country, it's not hard to see where it would be seen that way (no matter what the intent).

Just look at how many people here can't see the many Muslims who don't agree with violence, because they aren't publicized.

The perception that it was religiously targeted makes a difference in the reaction, just as the perception that it was actually sanctioned by Islam (rather than conceived of by a bunch of marginalized nutjobs, and assigned to Islam) is pervasive in much of the US.

Exactly. It's a bit difficult, and being a bit difficult we often err on the side of "glass fucking parking lot." Many people share the OP's "just kill them all" approach and are not bothered by a bit of collateral damage.

As to whether killing 11,000 civilians directly is "seeking to minimize collateral damage" or "effective shock and awe" will be left as an exercise to the reader.

I responded by brining up how many children had been killed by way of abortion and also how many lawyers had been responsible for deaths due to criminals going free. Ultimately it doesn't matter what you or I believe but what those that truly believing in something believe. These folks don't kinda sorta believe that all infidels must die. I think living in peace with my neighbors works better than being a bigot. But that's just me.
