Is The Obama Admin Drunk On Power?

Recommended Posts

I read an article that mentioned this. And I am curious as to what all think here. I do not do this poll to demean the president and I sure I will miss some relevant queries and those will be pointed out.

So I will try and keep it simple
"America will never be destroyed from the outside,
if we falter and lose our freedoms,
it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

BHO lacks leadership qualities. He is a consummate campaigner. Consequently, he will keep making up cover stories and that will likely bring his downfall.

Also, BOLO advisory, false flag military interdiction to draw attention elsewhere.

I don't think someone can get to be President without really, really, really, liking power. I don't think this one is any more "drunk" on power than many previous ones, either.

Spinning a non-Iraqi attack on the WTC into a war on Iraq is pretty high on the "drunk on power" thing. The attempts to spin Benghazi are, too. As I posted in another thread, I doubt "the administration" had anything whatsoever to do with the IRS stuff. Had they, it would have been generalized beyond Cleveland.

Different parties take aim at the power-drunkenness, depending on the political affiliation of the administration.

All through the 60's it was "Stick it to the man"

Now they are the man and sticking it to the country.

without comparing to previous administrations, I don't believe any administration should try to push the boundaries of their power. The boundaries of the government are laid out in this nice little document that so many politicians ignore.

True. Like the AP is taking aim at the justice department over phone records right now.

I agree wholeheartedly with your first sentence.

Even a couple of years ago would have agreed with the second sentence. What our President has done, though, is taken the stuff that the government used to sweep under the rug and said, "look at how awesome it is that I can do this!"

Okay, so America has performed hits on people in the past. Leaders of the past would deny it. Would do things under wraps. Now we have our President bragging about it. Commit an act of war by sending military forces into Pakistan and execute Osama bin Laden? Right on! We did it. Drop a bomb on an American Citizen? Yep - that was me!

The President's tirade about the gun bill failing in the Senate a couple of weeks ago was an example of the arrogance. He knew the bill stood no chance in the House but wanted the chance to blame Republicans. It didn't get there. He outright lied about the contents of the bill. His visible and palpable fury was an indication of the power not being what he wanted.

The toughest thing for me has been the press management. A couple of years ago an American spy killed a couple of Pakis. The Admin (doing it's job, I may add) argued that he was a diplomat entitled to immunity. The press knew the real story but held off on the story at the request of the admin. There was the row a while back about sending fox News to the dunce chair of the White House Press Room. Investigative journalism has taken a back seat to, seemingly, appeasement of the President and his admin.

Look at the stories that came out in the last week. The Benghazi timeline. The IRS stuff. The Admin getting phone records for AP reporters. It seems the last one may mark a turning point in the President/Press symbiosis. The Press doesn't like that power being wielded against it.

All of the recent Presidents have been fairly Teflon. Reagan. Clinton. Even Dubya. What we don't find in Press Secretary Carney is the sort of direct introspection of Ari Fleischer or Larry Speakes. I can only imagine how I would view this Admin if Mike McCurry was the Press Secretary - the only Press Secretary I really trusted. If he said something, you could bank on it being true to the best of his knowledge. That Clinton would have him as Press Secretary increased my respect for Clinton. So long as McCurry was Press Secretary there was transparency.

I just hijacked my own post...

If you look back at the past 40-50 years (and probably further - but I don't have enough familiarity with Ike/Truman/FDR times), i see a general tendency of the Executive Branch to abuse its position in the 2nd term (and Bush Sr's Administration as term 3 of the Reagan-Bush stretch). Lots of little scandals in the realm of the AP monitoring level.

I don't believe they're all driven by the President himself. I think the staffers get too comfortable after 5-6 years of power and decide the rules don't apply anymore.

Hence, it's usually good for the country to do house cleaning after a couple terms and put the other party in power.

Orwell didn't intend that Animal Farm be used as an instruction manual. Cue Benjamin: "Life will go on as it has always gone on—that is, badly."

And I think he genuinely believes he's doing the right thing in these scenarios. I don't, however, think he's thought far enough ahead to where someone else is going to get to do things based on the precedent he's set. NDAA sounds great when it's used to stop an imminent attack! Not so much when it's used to disappear dissidents... :S

The comments on my news radio, 970AM Tampa Bay, are comparing the BHO administration to the Nixon administration based on inherent paranoia and having an enemy list.
