quade 4 #7 May 12, 2013 KennedyOK, so there's a drone out and about. Yippee. FAA says it's not a drone. I believe everyone involved would know for certain, but there's no reason the FAA should need to lie about it. Additionally, government "spy" drones don't make themselves known by flying at 800 ft AGL or thereabouts. Also it appears to only fly night VFR. Depending on exactly where it flys, it may not be required to communicate with the FAA. It's just not a typical drone thing to draw attention to yourself by flying that low. Could be a private drone, but how f'in' stupid would you have to be to continue doing whatever your doing ('cause it's probably in violation of FARs) after this comes to light in the press? Hell, it could just be a flight instructor who has a student who can only fit night instruction into his schedule and the FAA, for some reason, feels they can't make it public if there isn't an actual violation.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

I was flying my drone low over the Chicago lakefront this morning. I'd post the pictures only they're too large for this site. No-one complained, but several curious spectators.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

Yours is small and I doubt makes much noise. You also were flying in daylight when it could clearly be identified. My further guess is your drone adheres to FAA regulations about mass. It also isn't being used for commercial purposes. You, simply, are not "them" in this case. It's a false equivalency. You're not stupid. I can't say the same for everybody else. You also have something to lose in the equation. Again, can't say the same for somebody else.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
