lawrocket 3 #27 April 30, 2013 >>> Anyone in favor of conserving finite resources is a socialist This weekend I went looking for dimmable lightbulbs. Couldn't find them for less than $10 a pop because the incandescents are banned here. I need a few of them, actually. And for them to match in lighting need more than a dozen of them. It ain't chump change but is something brought about "to conserve." Basically, a nice payout to the companies making LED bulbs. Got me thinking about it. We've got lightbulbs that the poor cannot afford. There's talk of raising the federal excise tax on a gallon of gasoline - significantly. How is it that the poor can afford it? Then the Eureka moment hit me - a new federal program will introduce "Gas Stamps." For those who qualofy and cannot afford it, the government will make gas and energy affordable to you in the form of Gas Stamps. I think I'm on to an entitlement the government hasn't hit on yet. Imagine how many votes it can buy. My lightbulb situation isn't socialism. It's more indicative of the corporatocracy/cronyism of US politics. My wife is hotter than your wife. Stop by San Diego. 6 75W bulbs for $4.37 at Home Depot. I'll send you some if you want. > I need a few of them, actually. And for them to match in lighting need more than a >dozen of them. Sounds like you're buying the wrong bulbs. >We've got lightbulbs that the poor cannot afford. There's talk of raising the federal >excise tax on a gallon of gasoline - significantly. How is it that the poor can afford it? Due to CAFE. The fuel efficient cars are the cheapest ones on the market now. It's less expensive to buy $5 a gallon gas for a 30mpg gas than it is to buy $3 a gallon gas for a car that gets 15mpg. (And one is _way_ better for the future of their kids.) >My lightbulb situation isn't socialism. It's more indicative of the >corporatocracy/cronyism of US politics. I'd say the "gasoline only" status of most gas stations is the best indication of "corporatocracy/cronyism" in US energy politics.
