ryoder 1,590 #26 April 22, 2013 Baptists are pretty complicated. This video is pretty long, so I've started it at the point where the denominational breakdown begins: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBKIyCbppfs&t=2m40s"There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. billvon 3,120 #27 April 22, 2013 >A religion can be neither violent nor peaceful. Those qualities can only be possessed by a person. That's like saying that Pakistan is not violent or peaceful; those qualities can only be possessed by its people/soldiers. Any person of any religion can be violent or peaceful. However, when religious leaders advocate violence and enable its usage, then the religion itself is violent. Examples would include the Catholic Church in the 1100's and the Taliban mullahs of the 2000's. (Fortunately, nowadays that is very rare.)

billvon 3,120 #30 April 22, 2013 >How does an inanimate abstract object exert physical force? People can be violent. Organized groups of people can be violent. When such an organization has as part of its charter to cause such violence (and is not a coincidence due to violent people being members) then the organization itself is violent. It would be incorrect, for example, to claim that the IRA or Al Qaeda were not violent organizations.

Now they just cluck at you and share a bunch of feel-good worthless shit on facebook to make themselves feel religious.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." quade 4 #35 April 22, 2013 Austin is only geographically located in "the South." Entire point being however, that "religion" generally becomes "violent" once somebody's panties get into a wad and I believe it has far more to do with "us versus them" than the actual beliefs. "Us versus them" can be anything; Red versus Blue, North versus South, East versus West, Left versus Right. You want peace? Stop making everything "us versus them." quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

mistercwood 287 #41 April 23, 2013 Quote Quote You want peace? You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
