Here's the thing I don't get: Most people who support capital punishment are the first ones to tell you how the government never gets it right and we need less government power. Once they recognize how often the government screws the pooch, why would you want to give them that power?

if you hold people accountable for 2nd and 3rd order consequences, rather than the people who actually committed the acts, then you got a pretty big snowball and a pretty steep slope.
