That's queer

Used to be an OK thing to say.

Chinks used to own laundries
No one thought twice about these things

Now they do.

Man, Americans sure are weird -- they can't make up their mind about their own language.

It's not Americans. Language does these things. "blessed" used to mean "foolish" for example.

There's an absolutely amazing lecture series about the evolution of language here:

I was really commenting on the seeming lack of understanding of how "kefir" seems to have changed in connotation over the years ;)

Its not your language its ours, we just let you borrow it and abuse it while you find one of your own. :P

Pfft. We'll give you credit for developing the beta version. You may thank us now for refining it into something usable.

Every culture throughout history has been racist. Every. Damn. One.

It would be nice to get past that.

Kind of like in Star Trek? :P

Trek was a leap forward, but even Roddenberry couldn't help still being just a bit racist by today's standards. You will notice Kirk (the guy in charge) was a white guy, Scotty was a drunk, Chekov spoke with a ridiculous accent and Uhura was the space telephone operator. ;) And let's not forget McCoy was a hillbilly who made racist comments about Spock pretty much every week.

:D:D:D You have a point. I should have been more specific. I was thinking The Next Generation, not the original series...

It was baby steps. Can you imagine the TV audience of then watching what is available today? :o

Some would call it a slippery slope.

Can you imagine what they would do to Mel Brooks today if he tried to release "Blazing Saddles"?:S

As much as I like you, you might want to swapping your 'z's out for an 's' most of the time, and throwing some u's back into, oh I don't know, 'colour' as a starter... :P

I'll forgive aluminium-vs-aluminum, apparently that falls back to an argument between who discovered it first and has naming rights, as opposed to being too lazy to pronounce an extra syllable. :)
