Ammo Shortage

Recommended Posts

A reasonable response. I don't agree with all of it, but that for another time. I'd rather hear your response to te parts you skipped. Specifically:
Quote

I'm still waiting to hear how buying a lot of more expensive rounds is saving money over buying a lot of less expensive rounds that meet your needs.

If this was nothing new with these orders, why can't/won't DHS produce numbers on how they use the ammo to justify the purchase size?

Assuming your assumptions are correct (I have no idea if they are) it doesn't save money.

>NRA is a rights advocacy org . . .Not an industry association org

And yet more than half their money does not come from member dues.

Follow the money.

Are you trying to imply that "more than half" come from manufacturers and dealers? Because that would be bullshit. NRA took in over $200 million just last year. They took in less than $15 million from makers/dealers since 2005! Money comes from... Well I'll let Wikipedia tell you:
Quote

In 2010, the organization reported an income of $227.8 million with roughly $115 million in revenue generated from fundraising, sales, advertising and royalties, with the remainder originating from membership dues.[85] Corporate sponsors include a variety of companies such as outdoors supply, sporting goods companies, and firearm manufacturers.
Since 2005, the organization has received at least $14.8 million from more than 50 firearms-related firms[85] In 2008, Beretta exceeded $2 million in donations to the NRA, and in 2012, Smith & Wesson reached $1 million.[87] According to an April 2012 press release, Sturm, Ruger & Company raised $1.25 million through a program in which it donated $1 to the ILA for each gun it sold from May 2011 to May 2012.[87]

Nope. Less than half comes from its members. The remainder, as the Wikipedia article explains, comes from manufacturers and dealers, advertising revenue (often by those same manufacturers and dealers) merchandise they sell etc.

So now you are implying that someone who runs ads in Rifleman somehow influences NRA policy?

We spend tens of thousands every year to run ads in venues that our customers associate with our products. I can assure you we have absolutely no influence on these advertising vehicles policies.

Do you have some proof of this alleged unholy alliance or is this just more wild, unfounded speculation?

You swallowed the NRA spin hook, line and sinker. And they are laughing all the way to the bank. (Heck, they're getting $1 for every gun they scare you into buying - so the less you know, and the more afraid you are, the better they like it.)

Here's a recent blurb from an NRA mailer that was sent to people who had purchased sporting goods at a large sporting goods chain:

"And they will not stop until they BAN hundreds of commonly owned firearms,

S.150. Probably politically non-viable nationally at this point in time. Connecticut SB 1160 passed. California legislators like Yee are working hard to expand our existing bans.

Quote

PROHIBIT private transfers of firearms,

S.374 with exceptions for family members, the deceased, and temporary transfers for sporting purposes. Obama is flying Sandy Hook families in on Air Force One to support this one.

Quote

CLOSE gun shops and shows,

This is more of a local issue. Los Gatos was pursing a moratorium on retail gun sales. Glendale is looking at banning gun shows.

Quote

and DESTROY your freedom to defend yourself, your home and your loved ones."

S.150. HB 1224 passed in Colorado. Bullets don't magically stop criminals and there are situations where 10 rounds aren't enough - one of the criminals in the infamous 1986 FBI shoot out took six hits and the other a dozen before they ceased their attacks.

Quote

Why all the fearmongering?

Politicians are being more active threatening our gun rights than usual. As a happy side effect for manufacturers, dealers, and the NRA that's leading to record sales.

Gun owners need to pay attention, lay in lifetime supplies of firearms (buy extras so you're not out of luck if one is stolen after it becomes illegal to replace it) and accessories (magazines get damaged) likely to be banned, and make our voices heard through contributions to the NRA Political Victory Fund, NRA Institute for Legislative Action, and individual pro-gun candidates who will be contesting winnable elections.

Reps already had guns and ammo. Democracts, realizing they'll be defenseless are at the gun counters asking dumb questions like: can I use this gun for self defense as well as take it to the range. They are the ones pushing up the prices due to demand. This is has nothing to do with NRA as much as you believe. And we've already discussed this: NRA doesn't promote buying guns. They promote joining their organization. The NRA does not send you a gun for joining the NRA.

Based on what I read here and other left wing sites, they should be going into gun stores and asking if they have a gun that can detect a criminal and then leap out of a gun safe, shoot him, and then call the Police. :D

It should be "shoot him or her" you chauvinist.

...in the leg, of course.

bob I knew you were more than a typical student for some reason.

I now know the reason.

thanks for the search engine

I shot a 25 at trap last night with a Beretta Silver Pigeon xTrap single barrel trap gun. There were 25 people there. The shells I shot were made in Italy. 1 oz of #8. The person that went with me was shooting an over under Browning. We had a great time. It's nice getting out and shooting. Enjoying a sport that has been around for nearly a hundred years. Trap and Skeet are Olympic sports. Service Rifles, (AR15) are used in competitive sporting events around the country. Now, since ammo is scarce, you have to buy as much as you can when you see it, as often places simply don't have it.

Well done! What yardage were you shooting from?

40yds. with mod choke. I use full choke beyond 40.

What the hell are you doing 40 yards behind the house?
