How does saying "it's not perfect" equate to "Obama gets a pass."

If he's better than the predecessor, and we can't know how Romney would have done (although he would have a binderfull to choose from ), then it's a fact. Perfection is not a possibility, especially if you don't have quotas (and quotas are also bad).

If you're looking for it to be bad, you can make it bad. If you're looking for it to be good, you can make it good. Just like lots of things.

That's the pass. It's like someone watching the Jerry Springer show as validation that, in comparison, he's not that bad. "Don't blame him. Check out the last guy!" This isn't like the economy - this IS something he could have fixed (much like ending DOMA, he hasn't).

Are you evaluating the path, or the end result? Because if you're on a path that appears to be aimed at the currently-desired result, it pays to keep an eye on the goal, but you probably don't have to focus as much on the actual path. If, on the other hand, you're heading in the wrong direction, it's time to check the path as well.
