Her older brother is almost as dark as my youngest sister that is of Somalian descent. Are you sure it's "1957"? How about 1907? Would fit much better, I guess. dudeist skydiver # 3105

Andy9o8 2 #241 March 24, 2013 QuoteI don't think my grandparents asked for permission It sounds like your grandparents violated at least two Mississippi laws: the one requiring them to truthfully represent their race on their marriage license application, and the anti-miscegentation law itself. That could easily have gotten them prosecuted and jailed under Mississippi law as it existed then. They had guts, I'll grant you that.

Sorry, but its not at all Why not? The ability of a minority to have the same opportunities as the rest of the majority is the basis of all civil rights movements. Just because you think that being gay is a choice and you think it is an immoral behavior doesn't give you the right to deny other people opportunities. And what if it really is a choice. Most behavioral science has shown that it isn't, but what if it is? What gives you the power to decide that someone else's choice is wrong? As long as both parties are consenting adults, and no one is being hurt, who gave you the power to control their life? Who made you the arbitrer of their rights? That desire to control other people and the apparent belief that it's ok to do so is rather offensive to me."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." My Grandmother had dark very curly hair and her skin was also dark, not as dark as my mom's older brother but yes she was dark and was considered "black". promise5 17 #246 March 25, 2013 They represented their race as human. No misrepresentation there. I will say this, this thread and others have really brought this up for discussion in my family and extended family. I must say, they are far from perfect and some are crazy, and yes some don't talk to others and they fight and drink and a few took drugs, and I think more then one has been to jail, they also gossip with the best of them. Yes some of us are conservative and some are liberals and holy crap we even have democrats, we have baptists, catholic lutheran and ugh even a scientologist and a agnostic, but they're all pretty amazing and its has been great going over family history again and hearing old stories. And the constitution was specifically written to prevent the majority from running roughshod over the minorities. It hasn't always worked out that way, but that's what's supposed to happen. Again, who told you it was ok to deny other people the same rights that you have? You seem to be hung up on a complete lack of racial identification (human isn't a race, it's a species). And I really, really doubt that your GPs told the Mississippi clerk of courts that their race was "human." You already stated that your brother (?) had to go well up the chain of command at college to put that on his application. Also, not everyone that lived in Mississippi at the time was a racist and not every clerk was a racist. I can only go by my family history.
