billvon 3,132 #1 March 7, 2013 The party of NO has become the party of NO but sorta yes in a hopey kind of way. At least it's an improvement over "go fuck yourself." ===================== Republicans May Offer Short-Term Extension of Borrowing Limit ASHLEY PARKER Published: January 17, 2013 WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Gathered for a retreat to map out how to manage coming confrontations with President Obama and Congressional Democrats, often combative House Republicans seemed on Thursday to be looking for a quick way out of one imminent fight. . . . The struggles of House Republicans have been shown most recently in the emergence of an influential but unofficial group that could be called the Vote No/Hope Yes Caucus. These are the small but significant number of Republican representatives who, on the recent legislation to head off the broad tax increases and spending cuts mandated by the so-called fiscal cliff, voted no while privately hoping — and at times even lobbying — in favor of the bill’s passage, given the potential harmful economic consequences otherwise. Representative Tom Cole of Oklahoma, part of the Republican whip team responsible for marshaling support for legislation, said the current makeup of House Republicans could be divided roughly into a third who voted in favor of the bill because they wanted it to pass, a third who voted against the bill because they wanted it to fail, and a third who voted against the bill but had their fingers crossed that it would pass and avert a fiscal and political calamity. =============== Now there's integrity for you. I'm now a firm believer that Barry's plan is to keep the economy weak, blaming it on the R's so he can get a majority in both houses in 2014 and go crazy the last 2 years of his presidency. Please don't dent the planet. The American people need to suffer and suffer greatly...with the media on their knees servicing the prez...they will make every effort to place the blame on the Rep's. When it comes to Obama, the media will swallow just about anything.

Let's hope that Obama's plan as described works out. Better actual progress in the USA than the bitter hatred from the Right Wing Conservatards that has held the country hostage since 2009. We, the people, voted for hope and change in 2008. The rescumlicans grossly abuse the Senate rules to stop pretty much everything positive that has been attempted. Due to media ownership essentially being fully in the hands of the righ wing hatemongers, the results of their obstructionism was sold to the gullible nitwits as Obama's fault. The 2010 elections were the outcome of the sustained propogandizing by RWC hate mongers. Here is a hint for the conservatards - A bill is supposed to pass in the Senate with a vote of 51 or more. The main job of the VP is to break 50-50 ties. It is a disgusting abuse of the Senate rules to filibuster all and everything, meaning that ANYTHING takes 60 votes to move forward. Real patriots would have risen up against the rescumlicans that employed this tactic. RWCs have proven themselves to be anything but patriotic by failing to try to stop that shit. When the focus of the cuts is dramatically different in opinions that align with political party and not common sense and prioritization, then pretty much we have too much subjective spending across the board. Again, you guys want to make it about military cutting only and have blinders to all the rest (it seems). Everyone else wants to cut military spending too, AND they want to look at any other opportunities to cut. no one is arguing with the military cutting (except the analogous nutbags mirroring your position on the other side - and they have the same erroneous approach.) the argument has to move from just one fringe vs the other fringe trying to win the philosophical debate - it has to move more to practicality. That means examining the entire spending structure from the biggest to the smallest - ignoring nothing. Absolutely nothing. The point is - there a ZERO "trivialities" in the budget. Not any more. It's funny, the poster I responded to noted that the "Trivialities" barely constitute more that 3% of the budget. That's bigger than the entire sequestor. How can 3% be trivial in one discussion, and the end of mankind as we know it in other discussions? Edit: this is a good discussion. The OP post about politicians be politically cowardly where they vote in a way that placates their constituents is a 'dog bites man' topic. But the approach to spending cuts stays a meaty topic. ... I guess I don't understand. Barry had a majority in both houses in 2009 and 2010 and still couldn't accomplish much. Why was that? Why did the country vote out dems in the house and senate? Was that the change the country was hoping for in 2010? Oh, and why are the majority of state governors republican? Please don't dent the planet. Both Dem and Reps want division. Reason: keeps them both in power. Besides, the people don't mean anything anyway. There's so much money devoted to advertising to get elected that a Senator could vote against the people of his or her state and still get re-elected. These guys can do what they want and for the most part they're after the money.
