He took over then took from the wealthy and gave to the poor. I know people there that were ruined. A socialist take over. Which is what is happening here.

He also cut poverty, unemployment, and inflation in half (extreme poverty by 72%). Sounds horrible.

And while you are at it: Boycott CITGO. And put "means justified by the ends" ="fuel oil Kennedy" in the same pile of shit.

I have boycotted Citgo since shortly after Chavez took over the oil industry.

For that matter I also refuse to buy Exxon or BP gas. I know it doesn't really make a difference but it's my own personal standard. I quit buying Exxon gas after the Valdez spill, and BP after the Gulf of Mexico disaster a couple years ago.

I feel for you. That being said, I tried boycotting Chinese products after the Tienamen Square massacre of 1989. That was right around the time we were spitting-out our 2 kids. Guess how much success the average American has buying kids' stuff without buying anything made in China. [:/]

Yeah, hard to avoid buying Chinese made toys. Not much I can do about that. There are plenty of choices as far as gas purchases go. At least I can sleep at night. :)

As much as I think Chavez was a dick, I'm having a bit of trouble viewing the Saudis or Kuwaitis as occupying a notably higher rung on the moral ladder.

Yeah I know.... but they are our allies.... sort of.

Iran was an ally. Then they weren't.
Iraq was an ally. Then they weren't. Now they are, for the time being.
Same with Afghanistan.

Doesn't make it right.

But, hey if I need gas to get down the road, I don't give a damn where it came from. Besides, crude from around the globe are mixed at the refineries as oil is bought on the open market from a number of countries.
Doesn't really matter where you get if from.

Nice. If only every consumer could do like you. :D

I can certainly understand the thinking. Problem is that BP and Exxon don’t get hurt a bit. Not at all. The gas stations are all franchises with the label, so it hurts the gas station owner and its employees.

This is because oil is fungible. Gasoline is fungible. Crude gets mixed together from different sources when it is sent to the refinery. The refinery puts out fuel that gets bought and sold by different companies. So BP’s franchises demand 10 million fewer gallons of 87 octane per day because they’ve been boycotted and now Chevron and Shell need an extra 10 million gallons? BP sells it to them.

You've got BP and Exxon fuel in your tank.

I don't remember where I said it, I thought I did in this thread... but I wondered if Venezuela was going to encase Hugo Chavez in glass and put him on display like Russia did with Lenin...

Turns out I was right! :S

Caught this excerpt from the news story below: "They filled the streets of Caracas for Wednesday’s six-mile funeral profession and waited in line for hours to see his body at the military academy.

The body will remain there for a week and then go on permanent display at a military museum."
