livendive 8 #176 March 6, 2013 Quote I wonder if they call(shut down) the federal govt. tomorrow (due to weather) in the DC area; if that day (for those affected) can be used as one of their forced days w/o pay? If you had to pick a day to give up your pay, would you pick one you were getting paid to work or one you were getting paid to stay home? Some contractors are letting employees start furloughs early (I hope I can) but I think everyone in a GS grade has to wait till April to start. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Blues, Dave mrowc6 is in the affected contractor pile (but working in a fed bldg), and can generally work from home if needed (not all can), so he will probably work tomorrow here if his building is closed due to fed shutdown, or even liberal leave. Even so, he's in a 10% pay cut situation this year, evidently. due to the cuts that get passed down from DOJ to the contracts.lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB
kelpdiver 2 #178 March 6, 2013 Quote QuoteFeds keep hiring with sequesters in place: 400 jobs posted on first day back Funny, my neighbor (a US Marshal) loses 1 day of work a week from his paycheck starting next month because of this. He doesn't seem to think it's 'scare tactics' Well, let's see what happens next month. There was a lot of bluffing last week about immediate doom, and more of the same going on this week. I love the threat of miserable air travel coming....wtf are we paying the $2.50/leg fee, then? They wanted the nudie cancer scanners, not me.

Agreed to some extent, however time may be shorter than it looks. March 27th is somewhat of a drop dead date. As I was informed today, the contract cancellations we're in the process of enacting will be largely irreversible within this fiscal year. It was made quite clear that unless something happens in the next couple weeks, our mandatory furloughs will continue through the FY. April hyjinx are not going to prevent or even curtail them because the work that we would be supporting cannot be turned back on with the flip of a switch.
