Zep 0 #1 February 23, 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21559451 A brilliant idea, the product is perfectly safe for human consumption so why not distribute it to charity kitchens and let the less well off have a meal. Why would the opposition say it's absurd and an insult to poor people. The insult would be to destroy tons and tons of good food in the middle of Europe's worst crisis. Bolas 5 #2 February 23, 2013 They should give the food away. If they don't want it, they don't have to eat it. What would be insulting would be to destroy the food while people went hungry.Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh. toolbox 0 #3 February 23, 2013 Hell yes,if no one else wants it then give it to the hungry. It's not tainted with prions(mad cow) so whats the problem. I have eaten horse meat when I was a kid and my family was having hard times. We never took government hand outs, but we were pretty poor for a spell. I remember eating ketchup and margarine sandwiches for dinner alot in those days. Hell, I would eat horse again and not bat an eye.

toolbox 0 #6 February 23, 2013 I hear bugs give everything a fine nutty flavor, kinda like peanut butter. I try to cook the e coli out of everything myself, since those are the bugs that really matter the most.

Even better, eat some meat and get into the clubbing mood, and then bulk up a little. Hell with all the added party favors, and performance enhancers, they should charge more money for that stuff. jakee 1,596 #11 February 23, 2013 QuoteWhat would be insulting would be to destroy the food while people went hungry. Why this particular bit of food? What about all the perfectly good food thrown away from shops, supermarkets and restaurants every day? What about all the food that farmers are paid to not grow? Why is it an insult to throw away this particular chunk of food that has been contaminated with meat from outside of any accountable chain of production? I'll answer for you: it's not an insult, it's cheap political pointscoring.Do you want to have an ideagasm?

jakee 1,596 #14 February 24, 2013 QuoteCause that food sort of doesn't exist. But it could. It'd cost the same to create it as not to create it. Of course, the reason it doesn't exist is because it isn't needed. There is no food shortage, there's a food surplus. You don't need to give tainted food to the poor when there's feckloads of spare food approved for consumption by worthwhile people. But figuring out a system for distributing that would probably be a Bad Thing. For some reason.Do you want to have an ideagasm?
billvon 3,120 #15 February 24, 2013 >But it could. True. And the grain used to feed all those horses could have just been given to the hungry as well. But it wasn't. It's not really a horrific insult to feed horses. >There is no food shortage, there's a food surplus. Overall, yes. The problem is in the distribution of that food. My solution - sell it, just mark it and sell it very, very cheap. Mark it "poor people only" if you want. Let aid organizations take the (almost) free food and do what they will with it.
