Immigration Reform - Oh, we're back on that again eh?

Obama’s immigration reform frays nerves, but shows similarities with Marco Rubio’s plan

Quote

“President Obama’s leaked immigration proposal is disappointing to those of us working on a serious solution,” Rubio said in a written statement that mischaracterized the White House’s involvement in disseminating the bills.

“The President’s bill repeats the failures of past legislation,” the statement continued. “It fails to follow through on previously broken promises to secure our borders, creates a special pathway that puts those who broke our immigration laws at an advantage over those who chose to do things the right way and come here legally.”

Reforms are going to be necessary, but to give them before we gain a better grip on the border is an invitation for more illegals to enter. I fear it will be like the Cali Gold Rush.
Please don't dent the planet.

Or scary immigrants, people coming to take your guns, or homosexuals coming to marry your children.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Mara Salvatrucha makes all of these other gangs seem like foolish people selling drugs. MS-13 is in fact the deadliest gang that anyone will ever come into contact with. The gang mainly consists of Guatemalans, Hondurans, Salvadorans, and other Central Americans and was started in the 1980s to protect immigrants from other big gangs. The gang has been able to spread beyond Central America into Spain, U.S., Great Britain, Germany, and even Canada. MS-13 is well known for drug smuggling, black market gun sales, theft, contract killing, human trafficking, and assault, especially on law enforcement. In the U.S. alone, the gang has 10,000 members. This gang has no remorse for killing anyone. Mara Salvatrucha is known for hunting down and killing anyone who speaks to law enforcement about the gang. MS-13 is known for its extremely violent crimes, especially against innocents. The gang has gone as far to set a bus full of children and women on fire which ended in 28 deaths.

But yeah lets let all 11 million of them to have instant amnesty. What a wonderful notion.

In talking with Border Patrol Agents in my area, they are seeing more and more Hispanic gang members of various gangs and other criminal types crossing our southwest border. All of them wanting to get in on the very lucrative drug trade here.
They aren't interested in voting in our elections, either!

a very good argument to make in legalization of drugs. take the profit out of it, let anyone who is legitimate participate, and you take out the gangs. or force them to go legitimate in order to participate. either way, it's a win-win situation for all. less tax dollars spent on prosecuting and housing criminals, more tax dollars coming into the pot. sounds like a good way to take the deficit down a notch or two.

That's only going to be half-successful. The problem I see with your model is the taxation part - it will still maintain a black market in bootleg drugs that evade taxes. Long after the end of Prohibition, there's still a robust bootleg whiskey industry in certain parts of the US (yee-haw!), and quite a few millions of tax dollars of law enforcement/prosecution resources spent to combat it. Also witness the robust bootleg cigarette trade in the US. Some of those bootleg trades are a response to govt-imposed price controls, but much of it is a response to taxes imposed on the products.

Bottom line, if you really want to minimize the criminality-by-definition in the drug trade, you need to do more than just legalize it, you have to make it tax-free, or the consumer demand for cheap prices will keep the bootleggers in business.

You call it a bootleg whiskey industry, some call it holding on to the tradistions of their past...
If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead.

To them, that's too much like work! At any rate, they don't want the 'picking' jobs, they go for the higher paying jobs in the north.

I'm assuming, you're talking about 'pot'? Or, are you saying 'coke', 'crank' and 'horse should be legalized too? The gangs could still, shake-down legal distributors and force them to buy only from the cartels. Those guys are experts at intimidation and brutality. Also, they aren't going to just give-up a multi-billion dollar business. I don't care what you do, we'll never be rid of the gangs. You think they won't get to any politicians wanting to legalize dope? I don't think, the general public has a clue as to just how dangerous the gangs really are. Most folks don't want to face the fact that there are gangs in their community, too!

Wait until they start killing white people. Then you will see a change in attitude about border security.
