davjohns 1 #27 February 7, 2013 lol That's true. I was looking for something a bit less jaded. I saw a young lady go up to the bench with a tongue stud in her tongue once. This was a particularly volatile Judge. He yelled for her to get out of his courtroom and remove it. Then, he lectured the entire courtroom on courtesy, proper dress, respect, etc. until she returned. Luckily, my case was on down the list and I didn't have to follow her. Same Judge put in all his orders involving illegal aliens that they had to leave the country. That way, if they showed up again, he could hold them in contempt. Last I heard, nobody had found a way to call him on it. He was District Criminal court. District is the lower court in Alabama.I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

LOL, then you have to explain to your happy felony-defendant client, "No, he means after your sentence is served."

I wish people didn't get their knowledge of courtroom practice from television and movies. It's a lot more boring than you think. ------------------------------------------------ Kind of like pilots don't say over and out anymore.Judge expected her to read his mine. Quote If she said avoir I wonder what the judge would have done? Had she not flipped him off, not much. Had she flipped the bird while saying "avoir" then something would be done. I've seen summary contempt remands before. If she said "Au Revoir"I would have increased her bail for the flippant answer about the value of her jewelry and not for the "adios". davjohns 1 #30 February 7, 2013 I can't recall ever seeing a Judge use a gavel, either. I have seen them reluctant to even use the bench. I don't think the Judge's reaction had to do with her use of the Spanish language. I think it was just her attitude. I doubt French would have made a difference.I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. Andy9o8 2 #31 February 7, 2013 QuoteI can't recall ever seeing a Judge use a gavel, either. . In 25 years, in courts all over the country, I've seen a grand total of.. one judge who used a gavel, and actually banged the damned thing. And sadly, he was literally - not just metaphorically - one of the stupidest humans I've ever met. He'd say shit from the bench that would leave everyone in the room, not just the lawyers, with mouths agape. On a brighter note, he's now the Flying Spaghetti Monster's problem, not ours.
