Immigration speech

Isn't it funny that during the GWB administration the righties whined about Pelosi's jet travel but not Bush's. Now the speaker is GOP and the Prez is Dem, they whine about the Prez's jet travel.

I don't recall much whining from righties about St. Ronald Reagan's very frequent travels to his Santa Barbara ranch either.

I was about the age of 18 during all what you previously mentioned, and did not have a clue about politics, money, or responsibilities.

I was not posting here at that that time. It's in the past we can't change that, how about we talk about spending now. 17 trillion in debt and the man uses 1.6 to go make a speech he could have easily made in the rose garden at his office.

Unless you direct your criticism non-partisanly at the cost of all/most travel in the institution of the presidency (which I might agree with), you're being hypocritical. And in 2005 (when you registered here) thru 1/20/09, GWB was president.

Ask yourself: do you want to just be a cheerleader (Yay team!) or do you want to persuade? The choice is yours.

I have already posted about his watsteful travels such as the double vacation trip to Hawaii. Even then someone brought up bushes trips to camp David, and I condemned that. Don't believe kallend childish attempt to throw me on one side or the other I am all about the constitution and being fiscally sound, I don't care who does it.

I don't even agree with state troopers now driving all over the place in gas guzzling Tahoe suv's instead of crown vics, or impalas and chargers which have to cost less at purchase and use less gas.

As far as what I said about posting I said "here" meaning actively interested and posting in speakers corner, not just registered on the whole website.

...or Harry Truman having Coors Beer flown-in to the Whitehouse for 'guests'. Chuck

Or all of Nixon's trips to & from San Clemente, CA, or the fitting-out of his "Western White House" there, or....or...or....

You know, part of the job of being President is communicating with The Boss, including doing so in-person. I remember during the Iran Hostage Crisis, Jimmy Carter severely restricted his travel-time away from the white house, as a way of showing the American people that he was devoting full-time to the problem and to his job. Fewer trips away to speaking engagements, fewer foreign trips, and fewer personal vacations to re-charge his batteries. It backfired, with the "common wisdom" of the time being that it actually was a sign of weakness: it appeared that he was letting the crisis hold him hostage in the White House, when he should have been out there pressing the flesh with the citizens and showing the Iranians that they could kiss his ass. I also recall that it was that overwhelming perception of his weakness that caused his resounding defeat to Reagan in 1980.

The American people want their Presidents to govern, to stay in touch with them, to be accessible to them, to show the flag in foreign countries, and to re-charge his batteries so that he can stay on top of a really grueling job. That means travel. Live with it, folks; it's been part and parcel of being President as long as the Republic has existed.

The way I see it is, we expect the president to do his job. Whatever that takes. If, he screws-up, he'll hear about it. If that means going to Hawaii or sippin' 'Colorado Kool-Aid'. As long as he does his job, right. Sometimes, stepping away from the 'heat' can help clear your mind and allow you to see things better and make the right decisions.

Of course it is. It's hilarious. Ha ha. I'm dying here.

Nope. Rancho del Cielo is a pretty nice place. Like Kennebunkport or the Bush Ranch or The Lodge in Vail or the Pacific House in San Clemente.

I note that Clinton didn't have a vacation house - he just liked to crash at pads on Martha's Vineyard.

I think he should have given the speech at the White House and then played a round of golf.

and then shot some skeet. and then taken away somebody's guns. and then stepped on a Bible. and then kissed a Q'ur'an.

And sent some of our tax dollars to his homeland in (Kenya/Indonesia).

The only childish person in this thread is the one who resents the President of the USA, of any party, traveling on official business.

Incase anyone's wondering that flight to Vegas and back to deliver a speech cost us another 1.6 million by Obama.

The money our government wastes on travel is truly staggering. I've long maintained that if you aren't willing to take a train or drive, you might want to consider if the travel is really necessary. In the days of VTC, it really isn't necessary a great majority of the time.
I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Your "method" of debate is childish, on several levels.
To the point of the discussion: nobody in here doesn't get called on being a hypocrite. Sorry, junior, but no special rules for you.

Im not going to continue this with you or kallend you are hopeless, but if any debate style is childish its the one of yours and his. All you ever have to fall back on is "Bush" and "Bush Jr."

You two remind me of the kids in my daughters kindergarden class with your whole naaa ahhh obama is better than bush, bush had a trust fund, obama bla bla bla. Can you live in the present, and talk about something that we can actually do something about.

Yea my posts are usually typed out on a iphone, and in a hurry, I actually have THREE jobs. I dont have a nice desk to sit at and waste rich parents money while I indoctrinate their kids with California coolaid.

So back to the topic at hand
The CURRENT president costs us 1.4 BILLION annually

http://www.hawaiireporter.com/obama-lifestyle-criticized-as-royal-author-documents-presidential-vacations-staffing-as-costing-1-4-billion-annually/123

Some of the examples of presidential perks that are highlighted in Gray’s book:

There are 26 cabin crewmembers and five chefs on Air Force One.
The president’s dog gets its own high-paid staffer, who is always on duty, paid an annual salary of $102,000 last year.
The president has a full-time movie projectionist in the White House theater who sleeps at the White House and is on duty 24 hours a day in case anyone needs to see a movie.
First Lady Michelle Obama spent more than 42 days on vacation in one year with security, travel and accommodations paid for by taxpayers.
And because the president can appoint high-paid staffers without Senate confirmation, Obama has 469 senior staffers and 43 “czars.”
226 are paid more than $100,000 a year, and 77 are paid as much as $172,000 per year.
In 2009, Gray said the military payroll at Camp David was $8 million and were put there serve the First Family and its guests.

$102,000 for a fucking DOGGY SITTER come on man pull your heads out of your asses!

Those are the perks that we pay for a sitting president. Any sitting president. If you don't like them, then you should agitate against them, but as perks of the presidency -- not as the perks that this president gets.

Because, by saying this president doesn't deserve them, you leave open the implication that others did (and will).

These are things that come with the office. If you didn't vote for the guy (or woman) in office, they still come with the office.

I will reply to you Wendy with my thoughts on the "perks" of the presidency.

-Its a job, not a lottery winning.
-Its an office not a royal family we are paying for.
-I agree he should have security at a reasonable cost.
-I agree he should be able to travel when it is pertinent that it be done in person.
-I agree he should fly safe.
-I agree that HE should have time off and a FEW vacations but not more often or more extravagant than most of the people who pay him could afford.(I have 3 jobs, my wife works, and we have not went on a vacation in years)
-I agree there will be some costs in running his office

-I do not agree that we pay someone 2 times what I make to take care of a dog when he has kids that can do it themselves.
-I do not agree that we pay for just his wife and kids to fly out of the country on vacation
-I do not agree that we spent I think over 3 million dollars for him to fly to and from Hawaii 2 times in a week
-I do not agree with 1.4 BILLION to make a president happy

Do your thoughts apply when someone else is the President? How about a President who flies nearly 10 times a year for vacations? One who chooses to entertain foreign heads of state at his ranch in Texas rather than in the far more secure White House (note: here I'm referring to LBJ as well as GWB).

If your thoughts are based on real costs, then you should be appalled at the costs that other Presidents incur. Are you?

Lets talk about

hypocrite

You guys on the left, bitch whine and moan about CEO's getting bonuses, high salaries, jets, stocks etc. Especially when they do a poor job, or tank the business.

The president is the highest CEO in the land, and he runs the largest business there is and its going horrible! Its also our money which we do not have a say in how it is spent(like voting someone out changes anything these days).

But when it comes to OBAMA spending 1.4 BILLION to run his office its ok, but here are some examples when a CEO gets a tiny FRACTION of that money and you guys throw a freaking hissy fit.

On Homedepot CEO

"Tell me this isn't somehow obscene."

"Its par for the course......the biggest turds always rise to the top of the cesspool. "

"I wish I was a Home Depot shareholder; if I was, I'd file a shareholder's derivative lawsuit against the company by the end of the week, demanding that the severance package be nullified."

"I think it perfectly fits the word "obscene""

"But this "CEO" is being rewarded for failure. "

"We should line up all these fuckers, take a .50cal rifle, and send a single bullet through the whole lot.

210 Million for failing to do your job? Please."

This was from one thread about one company. There are hundreds of other examples from other companies where the CEO actually did good, and you still bitched about their compensation.

So please tell me why its not ok for one person to get 1-10-100-200 million in salary, bonuses, expense accounts, retirement, but obama can use 1.4 BILLION ANNUALLY and its ok??
